Vehicle Detail

Please allow time for all the photos to load. I have provided twenty large pictures so you can see exactly what you are bidding on: Here is a really nice one owner 1978 Lincoln Town Car with 56,215 original miles on it. VIN number is 8Y82A925777. I am selling this car for the estate of the original owner, who passed away in July 2010, just eleven days shy of his 95th birthday. I was his friend and neighbor for the last 20 years and now I am the executor of his estate. The entire net proceeds of this auction will go to three research hospitals and a number of other charities, as instructed in his will. This Town Car has the 460 cubic inch engine and four barrel carburetor. It has the desirable options including sun roof, AM/FM radio with 8- track taper player and built-in CB radio. It has always been garaged and was chauffeur driven from the mid 1980's until the early 2000's. After that, the car was only driven occasionally until 2005. Since that time was has been started and run periodically. This September, I had the gas tank removed and it is clean and rust-free, probably because Sta-bil was added to the gasoline. The carburetor has been rebuilt and new spark plugs, fuel gauge float, fuel filter and fuel pump installed. I have receipts for all of the work. The car starts and runs well. I have taken several short trips in the surrounding countryside recently to make sure there are no problems with the car. It is Virginia licensed, inspected and insured. The car has the original paint on all but the driver's side front fender which was repainted following a relatively minor, low-speed accident caused by his driver making a wide right turn and clipping an oncoming car. The repair work was performed by the local Ford/ Lincoln Mercury dealer and I have the paperwork documenting the work that was done. After this mishap, the chauffeur preferred to supply his own vehicle since his services were only required once or twice a week. The car was driven sparingly for the next few years by a nephew who visited him twice a year. This is nice car and I would conservatively rate it has a high three or low two. Most folks would probably rate it a solid two but I am conservative and would rather have the buyer be pleasantly surprised. Let me put it this way: I have owned several collector cars over the years and if it was any nicer I would not want to drive it. Absolutely no rust anywhere and the paint is nice and shiny. There are a few door edge dings and the paint in the lower door jamb could us touching but, particularly on the passenger side where the owner dragged his feet getting into the car in his later years. The interior is very nice and I just had the carpet and seats cleaned. The radio, tape player and CB radio all work, and I will include an assortment of tapes in the sale. All of the power windows, including the sunroof, work but there is a problem with the power door locks. I believe only the power lock for the driver's door is functioning properly. The air conditioner also needs a recharge as it was working in 2005 just prior to being parked. I would buy a conversion kit and change it over to the newer refrigerant. I also could not get the heater to work and I suspect the problem is with the vacuum control, which may be all that is wrong with the AC. There is a small 3/4 inch tear in the vinyl top just below the back window (see photo). There are also a couple of scratches on the rear bumper on the passenger side where it wraps around the rear quarter panel (see photo). The clock also works intermittently. Included is a complete set of service manuals plus the original bill of sale, along with other maintenance receipts. Please email me with questions. If you prefer to talk to me please provide your phone number and the best time to call you. I have a full time job so evenings are best for me. Also, if you would like to visit Roanoke, VA to inspect and drive the car, just send me an email and we will arrange a suitable time. This car is currently garaged and can remain stored for at least 60 days prior to being picked up, if the winning bidder desires. However, a payment of fifty percent is expected no more than 14 days following the end of the auction, with the balance due when the car is picked up. Below market reserve. Thanks for looking. On Jan-20-11 at 10:05:21 PST, seller added the following information: I have been asked to take a close-up photo of the area where the vinyl under the rear window meets the metal strip forward of the trunk. I understand that is a common area for rust. So I have added a photo I took today. There are no rust issues whatsoever in this area or anywhere else on the car that I can find. I was also asked to take a couple of photos under the carpet of the trunk where the floor carpet meets the hanging curtain inside the trunk. Again, everything looks as it left the factory and what appears to be the build sheet is under the trunk carpet. There are no rust issues anywhere in the trunk. Lastly, as requested, I have verified that the headlight doors remain closed after the car has been sitting for at least a month and perhaps more. The cruise control also works.
