Offered in this auction is this beautiful 1983 Mercury Grand Marquis LS. This car was owned by a recently deceased 94 year old lady who babied it from day one. I have been around the old car hobby for over 35 years and I have to say that the 19,600 actual miles along with the unbelievable originality makes this car the nicest survivor I’ve ever seen or driven. This car was only driven 700 miles per year and never in inclement weather, let alone in the snow !!! This car truly runs, drives, steers, rides and even smells like its 1983 all over again !!! This Grand Marquis is 100 % original with exception to the tires, although the original spare tire is present but has never been out of the trunk. The factory Raven Black paint is 100% original and shines like the “wet look” and there really is no substitute for original paint. The sides of the car are arrow straight and I can attest that this car has no rust and has never had any body damage or repairs. I was only able to find a couple of small flaws. There is 1 very small door parking ding on the upper body line of the driver’s door. There are also 2 tiny nicks on the right rear quarter extension which were brushed touched. The left front wheel opening molding has a small ding. There are 2 very small dings on the topside of the hood which may have been from something falling off a shelf in her garage and these may be able to be dent busted ? The chrome and bright work are amazing ! Most of the Ford products from this era had aluminum trim that has oxidized to a dull or spotted finish. This is not the case here as this trim looks like it just came out of the package NOS. Even the door sil plates have little or no abrasion and shine like brand new. The bumpers, grill, headlamp bezels, rocker panels and all moldings all shine like 1983. The wire wheel covers are beautiful with no curb rash or pitting. The taillamp lenses still have all of the chrome hot stamping on the horizontal ribs of the lenses which was usually washed off by car washes. The glass is crystal clear, even at night with no chips, cracks, bug chips or delamination. The 302 cubic inch V8 engine runs smooth and quiet. The transmission shifts as it should and the overdrive functions properly. Let go of the steering wheel and the car tracks straight and the brakes will stop this car on a dime. Please be aware that the catalytic convertor has been eliminated. Ford, Lincoln and Mercury cars had a lot of problems with plugged up convertors during these years. Doesn’t matter here in Illinois anymore because of the age of this car but I thought I’d mention this as some states have more stringent rulings. This is the only thing this car may require. Please note that when I had this car glazed and waxed, I chose to leave the engine compartment original. I’d rather see some dirt than a phonied up engine compartment where someone has clear coated everything…TACKY ! The Full Leather interior is soft and supple with only light creases as the seats were always covered with soft blankets. The back seat looks as if nobody had ever sat on them ! The door panels are mint as are the headliner and dash pad. The ash trays have never been used because the car was never smoked in. The dashboard is crisp as new and the steering wheel is too and still has 100% of the woodgrain insert in tact. The shift, wiper and directional arms are mint and have no peeling as seen on most all of these cars. The carpeting and floor mats are in near mint condition. The vinyl roof is in excellent condition, shows no wear and the seams show no loose threads Options Options include 302 V-8 engine, Automatic transmission with Overdrive, Power Steering, Brakes, Windows, Door Locks, Antenna, Truck Release, Dual 50/50 6 way Leather Seats with recliners and fold down armrests, Climate Control Air Conditioning/Heater, Tinted Glass, Dual Remote Control Mirrors, Cornering Lamps, Low Fuel Warning Lamp, Intermittenet Wipers, Electric Rear Defogger, AM/FM Stereo Radio, Lamp Group, Wire Wheel Covers, Padded Coach Roof with Coach Lamps, Dual Pinstripes and more ! This car was not equipped with cruise control or tilt wheel which really confuses me so this must have been an oversight by the dealer when originally ordered. The nice part is that both options would be easy to acquire and install. I am posting a good number of pictures within this auction and have more available if you need them prior to bidding.
