Vehicle Detail
We are relisting my wife's (our) 1969 Plymouth Barracuda at a slightly lower reserve and a much lower buy it now. This is a four owner car that was sold new in California and stayed there until approximately 2000. I have two California BluePlates with the year 2000 sticker and many of the registration slips as evidence. The first owner was a lady and was sold to a lady in Oklahoma; maybe related? The car stayed in OK for a few years (again registration slips) and then was sold to a gentleman in Florida. We bought this car from that gentleman in spring of this year. My bride was born in 1969 and I have tried repeatedly to interest her in my car jones, yet she continues to resist. She claims to prefer driving her Honda Odyssey. In any case, I bought this car in May of this year on Ebay and made arrangemnts to pay for it and then made plans to drive it home to Virginia. I noticed in the pictures from the previous seller that the rear tires were re-treads and the fronts were worn, but I figured I could drive it home from Port Charlotte to Yorktown Virginia and then replace the tires. We arrived in Tampa FL near 3pm and the seller was kind enough to drive us back to Port Charlotte to pick up the car. We inspected the car and finally got Northbound near 7pm. The car ran great and was a pleasure to drive; a really fine little cruiser. We stopped for the night in Daytona, FL as a nod to one of my previous cars (70 Superbird). We bot back on the road the next morning heading North to Virginia on a beautfiul Sunday morning. Well.....the drivers side rear began to let go near Charleston, SC and we (me and a buddy) were able to limp to the next I-95 exit as the tire began to really let loose. As a result I had the car flatbedded to a local PepBoys and the car now sports a complete set of staggered Hancook radials. (I wanted BFG Radials T/As but could not find a matched/staggered set on short notice). Back on the road a few hours later, the car ran great, but there is no way we could get home to VA that day so we stopped near Henderson, NC. During the drive I noticed the brake pedal was little soft and the car would drift slightly to the right, so I made a note to correct that when we arrived home. After a brief overnight in NC we made it back to VA without furhter incident. Again, the car ran great. Shortly after arriving home I made arragement for one of my friends to bring the car into his shop. There, we replace the master cylinder, all of the wheel cylinders and all four brake drums. We also replaced all of the front suspension compenents and he rebuilt the carb. Again, my intention was for my 1969 wife to enjoy her 1969 Plymouth as a fun cruiser without worries. The car is an originaly B5 Notchback with B7 bucket seat interior and white vinyl roof. The third owner in Florida replaced the original steel wheels with wire covers with the slot mags you see on the car. I have the original wire covers, but not the steel wheels. The engine is the 318 2bbl engine the car was born with. The tranny is the 904 with column shift and the rear axle is the 7 1/4 with highway gears; probably 2.73. You may also notice the radiator was replaced somewhere along the way. The oil pressure guage and the temperature gauge seem to read high and I've decided the resistor on the instrumental panel may be bad as the car does not overheat and the radiator does not overflow into the catch can. As you can see from the pictures and from the additional pictures in the online album (link provided) you can see the can is an exceptionally clean lilttle cruiser that just need a new onwer. The car was repainted somewhere along the way (I'm guessing in OK as the previous owner claimed no knowledge of the paint job). The paint is not show quality but is much better than driver quality with the expected knicks, scratches and character marks from a car that is driven and enjoyed. The car also has had a new battery and is in ready to enjoy condition. I will look forward to your questions; I am sure I have forgotten something so I will post amendments as the auction runs. The reasons for selling is because my bride does not love the car as much as I had hoped and because I am considering buying a building for my business instead of continuing to rent. Please either click on the link or cut and paste as I think Ebay prefers not to have hyperlinkds in the auctions. http://s1047.photobucket.com/albums/b471/chasheidi/1969PlymouthBarracudaNovember2010/#!cpZZ2QQtppZZ24
