I am not a Ford guy so bear with me. I bought this car because it is an original big block 4 speed car and I wanted one to restore. Being a Chevy guy I wanted a chevy but couldn't find one in the price range I was looking for so I bought this one recently. I have decided to sell it for two reasons 1) It is in too good of shape for what I wanted 2) I am overwhelmed by how little I actually know about Fords especially the drive trains . ( What is up with the intake being part of the head???? ) I have done a lot of online research on Fords and am honestly intimidated by the differences between Ford and Chevy. First the story when I bought the car. The man who had it and was restoring/reconditioning it died. The car had sat inside while he was doing this for many years and he passed it on to his nephew and it sat in the same spot for a few more years until the nephew sold it to the man I bought it from..now with that said. This is a 1964 Galaxie 500 XL with a 390 and a 4 speed . It also has power steering. ( Boy that Ford power steering is one finger easy ) It runs and drives pretty good,shifts up and down through the gears with no grinding or rough spots There is no noise from the rear or clunking from the front end. The drum brakes are very good with no pulling to either side. The speedometer and odometer work fine. The miles I have listed are whats on the odometer, i do not know if this is actual mileage and doubt it is. When I brought the car home the lights didn't work and I found that the harness wasn't plugged in and now the headlights work on high & low. The tail lights,brake lights, turn signals and parking lights all work great . The E brake works but the E brake light is intermittent. The temp gauge works fine and the car maintains a good temperature. The heater gets hot and the blower motor works fine. The interior lights work fine with the exception of the driver door light which is not installed but included. The fuel gauge doesn't work nor do the dash lights. The cigarette lighter works but the radio doesn't.The windshield wipers work fine as well. There is no gas pedal. There are no speakers installed in the car. The interior is in pretty nice shape. The seats I believe, because of the texture, are leather but I don't guarantee it. There are no tears or repairs to any of the seats, there is an area on the front lower face of the rear passenger seat that has some sort of black stain. The headliner is very good with no tears or sagging with some bunching up at the rear corner pieces like it wasn't tucked behind the trim properly. Door panels are decent with some fading but no damage.The dash is very nice and shines nice. It has some slots under the front lip so it might have had padding at one time. All glass is good. The passenger side windshield has one slight arc scratch from the windshield wiper. All windows roll up and down with the exception of the front passenger window. The handle is in the glove box and it looks stripped to me. The glove compartment is good and the light works. The carpet is not worn or stained but needs to be stretched under the sills better.The console is in very good shape with the ashtray still in the rear.The large forward chrome piece is in very nice condition. There is no shifter boot or retaining ring. I believe all interior trim is there. The outside driver remote mirror works. Doors open and shut good with the passenger being excellent and the drivers being good. Needs letters on front of hood, he O is there. As you can see in the pictures the body looks good, the styling and trim work Ford put into these cars is impressive. The paint looks better in the pictures than the up close eyeball view however, I think a wet sanding will greatly improve the appearance. The body shows no rust however the magnet test revealed some repaire on the rockers which I coud not see or feel. I also found some rust on the passenger floor pan but it is not bad enough to repair in my opinion, the floor is solid with no give. In my opinion it probably came from a leaking heater core in the past. The heater core does not leak now. The frame is solid with no repairs , only some minor surface rust, no scaling. The trunk area is very solid and I found no rust there. All of the wheel wells are very solid with no rust or repair. Around front and rear windows are solid with no repair. I used a magnet on all normal rust prone areas of the car. The trunk lock and trim piece around the lock is not installed but included, but will need a lock. The exterior trim is all there ( I think ). The front fender emblems are not installed but are included but are in pretty rough shape ( see pictures of spare parts ). Overall the trim is nice with dings and minor dents you would expect with a 46 year old car.I think the trim can be buffed out to look impressive. The trim pieces for the rockers are included but not installed. The grill is in nice shape with no dents or damage. Overall the exterior looks nice ( to me ) The motor starts fine and runs good . High idle works good and comes down when you tap the gas. The engine smokes but has gotten better with the little I have driven it. I have not done a compression test. When driving the car it seems to have good power and runs smooth. I do not know how to decode the engine numbers or even tell if it is a real 390 or what. If you guys will educate me I will give you all the numbers I can locate. The engine has an offenhauser intake with a knew edelbrock carburetor and air cleaner. It also has erson chrome valve covers. Has brand new dual exhaust system from the manifolds back. The throw-out bearing makes noise in neutral with the clutch out but goes away when clutch is pushed.The engine shows to be clean with a small leak at the right rear valve cover.The front tires are great and the rear are okay. There is no spare or jack but the threaded rod that holds the spare in place is there.There is no collision damage to the body and the bumpers are solid with no dents.Over all the car appears to be good driver quality but needs to be driven to see if there are any bugs to be worked out. This car has excellent potential and is by no means a rust bucket or junker. I believe you can enjoy the car while working on it. The car is sold AS IS. I encourage you to come look at the car. I will gladly pick you up at the airport and take you back, either denver or colorado springs. If you can't come to look at it call the local car club and ask someone knowledgeable in Galaxie's to come look for you. I have done this in the past and have alway offered to pay but never have they taken money. You know us motor heads love looking at other peoples cars. I will take pictures of anything you like as long as it doesn't involve disassembly.Look at the pictures.,ask for more of specific areas. Ask question. You will find me totally honest.Remember I am not a Ford guy. ASK QUESTIONS. I have a clear OPEN Colorado title in hand. I do not want to trade or donate this car. Cash only. No the headliner does not need replacing it is in very good shape. No the seats do not need recovering or any repair. Yes the interior lights work to include the two rear ones ,the one over the console and the one in the passenger door. As I stated previously the driver door light and bracket is not installed but is included. No the power steering does not leak and works effortlessly. The hood and trunk open and close easily with no binding. The horns work but it needs the spring bushing under the horn ring on the steering wheel. I pulled the left front brake drum and as you can see the brakes are in excellent shape. The drum is also in excellent shape. I also took a couple of random shots underneath the car ( i just held the camera underneath and clicked. The one shot is of the driver floor pan back and the other is of a section of frame in front of the left rear tire. Like I said random as requested. I have been asked to reveal the reserve which I will not do, I will tell you that it is thousands below NADA low retail. You guys are really close. On Dec-17-10 at 08:17:08 PST, seller added the following information: I have had a few more questions. The paint, I'm positive, is not original however it is the original color. I see some traces, in obscure areas, of blue so it might have had color changes over the years but I don't know this. I do not think it has been on the road since it was painted but I don't know this. There are no dents in the body or evidence of any collision damage. I do not know if the interior is original however it too is the original color now. When you ask questions please ask specifics rather than generalities. As I've said I am not a Ford guy but will answer all questions honestly and to the best of my ability.Yes all the trim appears to be here but again ask specifics. once again the console is in nice shape as are the seats which have no repairs or tears. Yes there is an inside light under the dash over the console that works. I have had quite a few people ask if I think it could be driven rather than shipped and how long I will hold the car. I have driven the car about 15 miles and it did well with no problems. The engine smokes and no I don't guarantee it will clear up with driving miles. If you want to drive it home I strongly recommend driving it around here for a 100 miles or so and if there are bugs to work out we can do it together here in my garage with my tools and I will give all the help I can. You would also need a spare and jack and since the gas gauge dosen't work i would carry a gas can. If you seriously want to drive it home I can pick up these items before you get here. I will hold the car up to two weeks unless we work something else out. I will not leave you high and dry. Yes the car looks very decent and as I said it is not a junker. No I will not give a refund if you don't like the car. As far as me helping trailer the car, I am willing to help within reason just let me know what help you need.( as an example if you want to rent a uhaul car hauler here I will pick it up load the car and meet you halfway, within a reasonable distance and you can take the car and trailer on your truck back home and all I ask is you pay my diesel). Do not mistake this as me offering to ship or deliver the car. It is As Is WHERE IS. I know it is tough buying a car sight unseen but I don't think you will be disappointed as long as you read what I have explained and you ASK QUESTIONS.
