Touareg (TOUR-regg) is a 4-dr wagon with rear liftgate and no 3rd-row seating available. It offers three engines: a V6 with 240 hp, an increase of 20 hp from 2004; a 310-hp V8; and 310-hp turbodiesel V10. The sole transmission is a 6-speed automatic with manual shift gate. All Touaregs have an all-wheel-drive system designed for severe off-road conditions. It includes low-range gearing and a locking center differential; a locking rear differential is optional. ABS and an antiskid system are standard. A height-adjustable air suspension and xenon headlamps are standard on the V10, available for other models. The V6 comes with 17-inch wheels; others use 18s or optional 19s. All Touaregs include front side airbags and head-protecting curtain side airbags for both seating rows. New for 2005 are available self-dimming exterior mirrors. All models have wood and aluminum interior trim and a sunroof. Leather upholstery is optional for the V6, standard otherwise.
