Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a very well taken care of, enthusiast owned, Mercedes-Benz SL500. It is a weekend car or "garage queen" as some call it. It's driven once a week or less, and very rarely in the rain. I have owned this car since October 2009 and have babied it ever since. The previous owner had taken very good care of it also, and it shows. I am only selling because I want an NSX, which will also be a garage queen. Unfortunately there is only room for one. This car is definitely one of the cleaner R129s out there. It's been in Florida all its life. I spent months looking for one in this condition that wasn't $20,000. The car is garage kept and waxed regularly. Both the interior and exterior are in excellent shape for a 13 year old car. The only issues are a missing button on the center console ($12 online), one of the speaker grilles on the rear deck area is damaged (hardly ever see it), and some wear on the driver's side seat bolster (common on most cars due to entry and exit). Since i've had the car, i've made a few tasteful modifications. I will try to list all of them including maintenance. This SL uses the M119 V8 which produces 315hp and 347ft-lbs of torque. The 1997 SL500 is the only year with this HP and Torque rating. It is more than even the newer R230 SL500s which came out in 2003. The engine is healthy, pulls very strongly, and sounds amazing while doing so. Please see this review by Ken Rockwell on the 1997 SL500: http://www.kenrockwell.com/sl/index.htm Modifications/Additions: OEM Xenon Headlamps (close to $1200 per side new) Eibach Pro-Kit Springs (better handling and lower, more aggressive ride height. Stock springs included as well) Custom Exhaust (Custom fabricated Y-Pipe in place of back muffler. Sounds great. Little to know difference in cabin volume at cruising speed but sounds mean if you punch the gas. OEM muffler will be included) Newer style (years '99+) OEM tail lights Replaced older AMG Monobloc wheels with newer style from an '02 SL (Dunlop SP Sport 9000 tires. One tire in front has a tear in the sidewall but i've been driving on it for months and is not losing air) OEM Mercedes Audio 10 Cd player with hardwired FM Modulator for iPod/MP3/Aux hookup (200 watt Bose Acoustimass system with sub) And a few other little things (LED instrument cluster with chrome surrounds, LED license plate bulbs, woodgrain AMG shift knob, chrome gear shift surround, Phillips 6000k xenon bulbs, and more...) Recent Maintenance/ Repair: All O2 Sensors and spark plugs (at 74k mi) Transmission flush, new Rear Shocks, Differential drain & fill (at 74k mi) Serpentine V belt and fuel filter (at 77k) Reupholstered Hard Top Repaired and resealed all hydraulic convertible roof pistons New hood insulation pad New transmission plug and O-ring (common leak on these transmissions) What's included: Hard top Hard top cover Car cover Two Dunlop SP sport tires for rear (1 new, 1 used) OEM springs and muffler All manuals and original window sticker Roll bar windscreen (close to $400 if you need to find one.) Check out all of the pictures and the video! (Pictures at the bottom with the Hard Top show old wheels which are no longer on the car)
