Vehicle Detail
This beautiful Triumph TR6 is believed to be the last car Elvis presley ever purchased before he died less than one month later. This car is titled as a 1977 and was built in May of 1976. When Elvis joined the Army in 1958, little did he know that the daughter of his induction officer, former actress/model Ginger Alden, would eventually become his number-one lady, and potentially Mrs. Elvis Presley, had Elvis not died so unexpectedly in 1977. Elvis' best friend George Klein had arranged for Ginger's sister Terry (a former Miss Tennessee) to meet Elvis at Graceland, but Elvis was immediately enthralled by Terry's younger sister, Ginger, who accompanied Terry (as did another sister, Rosemary) on the outing. Offered here is a token (and what a token!) of Elvis' affection for Ginger. This convertible is in beautiful condition as is the provenance on this fine machine. Accompanying the car is a letter signed by Ms. Alden, verifying the authenticity of the Triumph, an original photo of the car, parked outside of Ms. Alden's Memphis home, and the original State of Tennessee title in Ms. Alden's name. Further verification is provided by noted Elvis memorabilia collector Thomas B Morgan Jr. The car looks as fresh today as the day Elvis purchased it (July 14, 1977), and although it was never officially registered in Mr. Presley's name, a signed letter from Mr. Homer Skelton, President of Covington Pike Toyota in Memphis, verifying the sale to Elvis, is also included with the vehicle. The engine compartment is startlingly clean as is the black vinyl and wood-trim interior. The car shows 21,345 original miles on the odometer and has the Triumph Commission Number CT 55751U, with the original Triumph paint code of 85 (Java Green). The car has a standard transmission and is shod with the original "redline" tires. The original steering wheel was replaced with a wood wheel by Ms. Alden (as verified in a letter from Ginger Alden dated April 2010). A musical horn (shown under the dash in pictures) was added when the car was new. A catalog of tunes played by this horn is affixed to the dash. The original steering wheel and an un-used original tonnau cover are included. The car starts, runs, and drives well, and is in perfect mechanical condition. This car is original in every way, including factory applied paint, interior, and mechanicals. Some of the photos were taken in upstate NY during the spring of this year. One photo shows the car in August at the Peabody Hotel during the 75th anniversary Elvis celebration. The old photo shows the TR6 as new parked outside Ginger Alden's home. Behind it in the driveway a white Lincoln and a two-tone Cadillac, two cars that Elvis was photographed in during his final months. The Cadillac was reportedly sold to famous Elvis collector, and lead singer of the Wiggles, Greg Page. The sale price was over $100k. The TR6 is now being stored near Daytona Beach FL after being carefully transported from upstate NY, where it resided since being purchased from Ginger in 1979.
