Vehicle Detail
1953 MG TD Mark II Roadster with original black California license plates in excellent condition, no rust ever. This is a genuine Mark II, one of only 1710 ever produced out of a total TD production of around 30,000 units. This car was stored inside a garage for over 15 years exactly as you see it. It was not started or driven the entire time. We purchased it from the second owner, who bought it from a neighbor in Berkeley, California, during the 1970's. The second owner had the paint redone in the 1980's, an older laquer job which still looks quite nice. There are no signs of rust anywhere on the car. It was always garaged, and it has been stored in perfect conditions: cool and dry. Please note that the rear convertible top window still appears clear, not yellowed or cracked from age. Our professional technician performed the following work within the last two weeks: Removed and flushed gas tank Replaced rubber fuel lines from tank/ fuel pump/ carburetors Cleaned out metal fuel lines Cleaned out carburetor float bowls Installed good battery Changed engine oil Replaced front brake shoes Replaced engine coolant It starts right up and sounds excellent, hits evenly on all the cylinders, and no smoke. The transmission shifts as it should, and the car feels solid on the road. While researching the Mark II model, I found following website: http://www.niagarabritishcarclub.org/mgtnumbers/numbers.html If you click on this link it will provide the following information: "For the TD there is the slight complication of the TD Mark II; because this started off life as a competition version the chassis numbers were prefixed TDC. Probably because they were modified on the production line to special order. The Mk II chassis numbers occur throughout the span of the 'normal' TDs, which is from TD0251-29915. Only 1710 Mk II's were made, and of these a mere 52 were allocated to U.K. customers; all you hopefuls who register a Mk II with the MG Car Club have in many cases got a standard TD with a large clutch (see Engine Number). Remember, all genuine Mk IIs have the TDC prefix. TD Mk II engines beginning with 17029 were coded XPAG/TD3" Please inspect the data plates on this MGTD and note that it does have all the Mark II bonafides: the "TDC" prefix in the VIN; the "XPAG/TD3" designation; and numbers-matching engine. Less than one in fifteen MGTD models were originally genuine Mark II's, and this car's original solid condition and black California license plates make it rarer still. Please also note that this MK II TD has "auxiliary friction shocks" fitted to all four suspension points, further bolstering the proof that this is a genuine MK II. These special suspension components were only installed on MKII models.
