Vehicle Detail
This Mercedes is a 1975 280c, inline 6 cylinder 2.8 litre automatic transmission gasoline powered car. Much more rare than its sedan variant, it has some collectible status. I drove this particular car daily about 3 years ago, but since then it has been essentially unused. THE GOOD, BAD AND UGLY this is a great project car, but i'm not going to sugar coat this. it needs a fair bit of work. i drove it last in april, and it will run, but it will need to be towed home. it has a new starter and recent plugs and cap/rotor. the car will start and run, but not well. it needs to have the carburetor refurbished and exhaust leaks attended to. the interior is in pretty nice shape, a cream colored vinyl. the body is solid with the exception of some rust spotting and perforation on the rear of the trunk lid. the front and rear windscreen seals need replacing and someone (before i owned the car) has puttied up making a mess around the seal, molding and glass.. and yet it still leaks water. the rear floor behind the bucket seats needs replacing. it has been patched up to seal the holes (resulting from the windshield seal leak) using sheet metal and fiberglass. the window motors are not strong and the drivers rear doesnt work. the power steering hose leaks and needs to be replaced. i dont think the radio or ac work, but are intact. the transmission linkage needs some adjustment. the better news is that i have a lot of spare parts for this car including a lot of interior bits, some suspension pieces (tie rod ends, i think), a complete spare dash, a windshield seal etc. i cant keep the car in hopes that i will get to it someday, it would be better off with someone who has the room and time for this project, i already have several others. my loss... your win. there is no reserve on this car. at the very least it is a great car to part out for your project. it has a nice independent rear suspension setup and four wheel disc brakes that would be good on a custom project. the engine is strong and the body is still solid except for the above mentioned. with some work, this car has another 20 years of life in it at least. thanks and good luck. On Oct-26-10 at 14:51:06 PDT, seller added the following information: ******new stuff ****** additional pictures requested of the interior are shown. also larger versions of the first pictures and pictures showing some of the spare parts and bits, door panels, dash, etc. a couple revisions to the previous description: the original becker radio is not currently in the car, it was removed to put an aftermarket cd player in some time ago. it could be in with the piles and boxes of parts but may not be. carpet is not currently in the car, but i have original carpet sections (it was all separate pieces from the factory) from another car to go in once the water problem is cured. the finish of the wood on the glovebox door has cracked and peeled off in several spots, but as i mentioned i have a complete dash from another car that is in much better shape and the wood is very nice. it all comes with the sale of this car if its needed or wanted. what else.. i am currently charging up a battery that will go with the car. the headliner is in perfect shape, no holes. you will want to add new seatbelts. i remember them being not the most user friendly. the interior is an off white/cream color and i have a complete set of door panels from another car that are a caramel color, as are the carpets. my plan was to keep the seats cream, the door panels caramel and then put in a new set of black carpets. cap the top of the door panels black to carry the dash color around the interior and i think that would add the multi-tonal richness it deserves. please feel free to ask more questions. thanks On Oct-26-10 at 15:43:16 PDT, seller added the following information: i lifted the mat in the trunk and there is rust at the back of the trunk floor too, looks like the trunk seal is also not doing its job. just trying to be as straightforward as possible so there are no surprises.
