Vehicle Detail
Car does have a prior salvage title. Runs great and is a very nice car with only 84,000 miles on it. The 4 cylinder turbo is quick and great on gas. Tires do not match, but are still in pretty good shape. The only thing I know of wrong with the car is 2 sensors that go in the trunk need to be aligned so the top will go up and down by itself. Motor and hydraulics work just fine, but the sensors need aligned. Drive the car anywhere. I have had several calls on the "sensors" needing to be aligned for the top. I checked with the mechanic today and found out that it is not "sensors". What it is called is a micro-switch. They do not need to be replaced, repurchased or programmed. Somebody, prior to my getting the car, removed them from their original location and now they are just dangling in the trunk. His suggestion to fixing it is to lay the back seat down which is a very easy undertaking and remove the trunk lid. This allows total visibility of the metal structure and mechanical workings for the top. The micro-switches will then be accessible by viewing them and being able to feel where they might go in the pocket that holds the top. They are obviously switched one position when the top is up and the other when the framework comes down into the pouch, or pocket, making them work like they should. Before even doing all this be sure to replace the cold roll pin, or key, that was originally thought to be the culprit to start all problems. The cold roll pin can be purchased anywhere for less than a dollar. The switches are good because I have had to trick them myself in order to put the top up and down. The motor works fine or you couldn't put the top up and down at all, so what is involved here is actually time for trial and error getting the switches back to where they need be. Anyway what I found out was that its not a bunch of expensive parts to buy, but rather just getting yourself familiar with the mechanism and having view of it to "align" the micro-switches.
