Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Low Miles Mercedes 300TD (touring diesel) Wagon This is a gem of a car. I bought it a couple years ago with about 69,000 original miles on it. It has been my wife's daily driver and now has 98,508 miles on it. The vast majority of the last 30k miles have been highway miles. Alas, my wife wanted a van & I have to drive a truck for work...so this has to go. This diesel wagon is by no means perfect, but it is a very dependable, solid car. It was the flagship Mercedes in 1980, featuring self-leveling hydraulic rear suspension and climate control. This wagon has the sought-after third row seating (rear-facing) that gives this wagon seating for 7! Our kids love riding in that seat! The jump seat that folds down level with the floor for expanded cargo room & the second row seats also fold forward, level with the cargo floor. This also has the better-than-leather MB Tex upholstery in matching dark blue. The wood dash trim is all in tact. The seats are all in good condition, as are the floor mats and carpeting. It has a roof rack and even has a OEM built in CB radio that worked with the original Becker stereo. The CB still works to broadcast, but is not wired in to hear through the radio. The underbody is in good condition. All glass is in good condition. Of course with this vintage of diesel Mercedes, the engine is the real star. These cast-iron engines are nearly indestructible if cared for. They regularly get 250k to 300k out of them and it’s not uncommon to get 400k+ miles. This one only has 98,500 original miles, so there should be lots of life left! This car was driven by its original owner until he was unable to drive. It was bought by another gentleman who drove it for a couple of months & decided he needed something different...and I bought it from him. I had it gone through and cared for by a Mercedes specialist. He rebuilt the hydraulics in the rear suspension, replaced a window regulator, and charged the Air Conditioning. Other than that, I have changed the filters and fluids regularly. It does use about a quart of oil a month. It does not smoke after initial start-up. It does have an engine block heater, but has started without fail in the winter even when I didn’t plug it in.This car has never been run on biodiesel higher than B20, but it would be a good candidate for biodiesel or greasecar conversion. This car is really fun to drive. It loves to cruise between 65-75 down the interstate. You can just feel the power and solid build. For an old diesel, this car has surprising power and acceleration…and there’s nothing like the solid “clunk” of all-steel doors closing. The pneumatic locks still work. The radio is an older after-market AM/FM/Cassette. Included is a fabric car cover. Now for things that could use attention: The dash is cracked, like most old Mercedes. If you want to get a custom-fit, matching color cover, I can show you where to get one for $89There is a little rust cancer: on the left fender: half-dollar sized hole at the head of the side molding and some at the very bottom of the fender. There is one spot on the rear hatch. There is a little bit at the bottom of the right fender. All could be patched by a body guy. I can show you where to buy a new fender if you wanted for $169.There is some surface rust…just little spots…and truly on the surface. The paint is original…so it is faded and thin, but not flaking off or cracking. There are a few places where the previous owner used some touch-up paint that didn’t quite match. There is a small piece broken out of the plastic surrounding the left front headlight. It is transparent, so it is not very noticeable. The front console switch for the left rear window works intermittently, but the switch on that door does work. All other switches work. Please note that all of the above are cosmetic and relatively minor. There are no known mechanical defects. If you want a new fender, dash cover, headlight surround, window switch & professional paint job, I can have it done prior to pick up for an additional $1200 to the final auction price. That’s all I know about. I am not a mechanic, but I own two other Mercedes older than this one and this is a solid car. If you are looking for a good, low miles Mercedes diesel, this is the car for you. I believe I’ve priced it fairly, so let the bidding begin… Don’t bother asking what the reserve is. I won’t sell the car early, except through Buy-it-Now or locally for the same price. Car is sold as-is with no warranty expressed or implied. This is a 30-year-old car. Non-refundable deposit of $500 is due immediately after auction ends via PayPal. Balance in cash due at pickup. Non-paying bidders will be hunted down, hung upside down by their toenails and bludgeoned with giant organic carrots...and get bad feedback. I am willing to ship or deliver for additional money. Airport pickup is available in Lexington, KY; or in Louisville or Cincinnati for $30 in fuel money.
