Vehicle Detail
This 30th Anniversary Z28 was purchased by me on July 8, 1997. Easy for me to remember as it was my son's 5th birthday! I was 43 at the time and 56 now, so it is absolutely an adult owned vehicle. I have been the sole owner and have loved owning and caring for it, but I have too many projects and something has to give. Modifications have been made throughout it's time with me, but I have saved all of the factory original parts for future re-installation/restoration should the next owner or future owner so choose. A Powerdyne supercharger system was professionally installed and tuned by Area 51 Performance. My desire was not to wring every last horsepower out of the beast, but to create what the factory might have done if they made a supercharged model. Boost is a conservative 6 pounds and under day to day driving, you will never notice that it is not a bone stock Z28...until you mash the pedal. There is no finicky behavior due to the supercharger. The engine starts instantly (even if it has been sitting for weeks) and idles smoothly. It has rarely seen redline as that is just not necessary with the level of power on tap. The clutch sometimes chatters a bit when cold starting off, but that is pretty common in LT1 six speeds in any vehicle. The car was put into semi retirement at 100,000 miles in 2003 and has just been used for fun runs and on occasions when we needed an extra car due to other vehicles being in the shop. It has been well maintained since the day I brought it home with all oil changes being Mobil 1. It has not been involved in any collisions and the paint is original, although the vinyl stripes were just replaced last week. (More on that later.) It is a fabulous car to drive for an enthusiast. Power is always on tap, it handles well (it does ride a bit rough on bad roads due to the suspension) and is just about as reliable as a stone. Major Repairs: Intake manifold oil leak (from the factory brand new...it was fairly common) Transmission replaced at @~15,000 miles when a large rock kicked up from an 18 Wheeler knocked a hole in the trans! Driver side window motor replaced (these always fail and a spare for the passenger side comes with the vehicle) EGR valve and solenoid replaced at ~85,000 miles Air injection pump replaced at ~105,000 miles That's it! Everything else is normal maintenance or or small stuff like the CAGS (skip shift) solenoid acting up. Really a reliable car. Modifications: Powerdyne 6 pound boost supercharger MSD ignition Magna Decoma Stainless Steel Exhaust System Professional tune of factory PCM 36 pound/hour Bosch injectors (new at 100,000 miles) Stoptech cross-drilled brake rotors Hawk performance street brake pads Eibach Pro Kit springs LG Motorsports front and rear stabilizer bars with urethane bushings Bilstein shock absorbers (97 Camaro SS valving) OEM Concepts 17" ZR1 style wheels (factory white wheels, hub covers, lugs and key socket packed and saved) New Stuff: New windshield and windshield trim installed - 7/2010 New top line Duralast battery - 4/2010 New dashboard top pad (these disintegrate after about 10 years) New shift boot New repro 30th Anniversary stripes from Phoenix Graphics - 10/2010 New 30th Anniversary front carpet floormats (still in the box) New hatch divider to replace the worn original New hatch lift cylinders - 10/2010 Issues (It IS a 13 year old car): The headliner is sagging and is being held in place by straight pins at the moment The pile of the carpet of the hatch area was scraped up when I carried a heavy audio amplifier home from work, Doh!! Who knew it would do that? (See photo) The low coolant level indicator is on although the level is fine. I removed the sensor and cleaned it 3 times over the years, then just decided to ignore it. The Kumho Ecsta tires, while having LOTS of tread, are 7 years old, hard as rocks, noisy, and showing small cracks in the sidewalls. The grip isn't what it used to be either. Driving light lenses have cracked and the lamps have failed. Replacement repro light housing with unbreakable polycarbonate lenses and new halogen lamps are included. The driver side seat back has worn through at the bolster like most fourth gen Camaros. A rare factory replacement cover (they were $700+ when you could get them) comes with the car. the passenger side seat back is in excellent condition, as are the back seats. The driver and passenger seat bottoms have cracked at the seams. These can be reproduced by a good upholstery shop, unlike the embroidered back. When the top stripes were being removed, some finish came off with the right side stripe. Due to miscommunicaiton with the body shop, they put the stripes on over this damage instead of filling and blocking the areas as I wished. The body shop tells me that it is about a $100 job plus the cost of the new stripes to fix it. I have decided to sell as is and let the new owner decide what to do. It is a wart, but not an awful one. (See Photo) I do not know if Phoenix Graphics will produce top stripes only. In this case, they might. Extra Stuff: Brand new 18" ZR1 Style white wheels. The only ones I have ever seen. I think it will be an amazing look. (Please send pix when you mount them) SLP center caps, lugs and lug covers for above. Just like the 97 SLP SS cars. The wheels above came with silver caps and Corvette emblems (included)...strange LG Motorsports adjustable panhard rod (not installed). Earls Hyperfirm braided stainless brake lines (not installed) OEM Z28 form factor stainless exhaust tips (not installed) I love the sound of the Decoma exhaust, but always thought the slash tips were not as classy as the originals. Spare window motor 30th Anniversary Camaro/Inaugural Brickyard 400 Jacket, new XL 30th Anniversary Camaro Polo, new XXL Dealer poster for 30th Anniversary Camaro Two 30th Anniversary Camaro dealer promo sets (assembled models) Two AMT/Ertl 30th anniversary Camaro Convertible model kits in shrink wrap Two 1997 Camaro brochures (one has my notes from shopping, the other is pristine. Factory 1997 Camaro/Firebird service manual (two volumes) SLP 35th anniversary Camaro car cover w/bag and security cable. Top quality cover. Haynes manual (admittedly pretty useless if you have the factory manuals) Questions, test drives and inspections welcome. I will be glad to email the original high resolution versions of the photos on request. I have seen rougher examples of 30th Anniversary Camaros going for much more as I am sure you have, but...this will be a REAL auction starting at $4500 and NO RESERVE. I look forward to sending a good car to a good home.
