Vehicle Detail
A terrific prewar chevy with a history. Rumored to have been a diplomats car, this 1941 Chevy has every part that is stamped or has embosed lettering identified as "INDUSTRIES ARGENTINA". The engine block, intake manifold, windshield and window glass, voltage regulator, brake parts and numerous other items have that identity. Even the hood ornament has a small hole drilled through it and had a wire to drape a flag over the grille. I could not find records that go back that far at GM to get additional information...but was the entire car made in Argentina under license? This is a good example of a car that was well used but treasured. One can tell by the professional maintence and repairs done over the years that the car was important. At some point a replacement 230 ci Chevy motor was installed (also manufactured in Argentina). The motor looks about the same as the original but boasts 50 additional horsepower and is a thoroughly modern engine. The car also has a Bendix power brake booster (also labeled in Spanish), however not very effective. THE RESTORATION OF THE CAR INCLUDED: New vinyl upholstery New cloth headliner. New carpet with thermal and sound underneath. New trunk upholstery New door sills and rubber running board covers Fender seams filled for a smoother look New king pins and bushings New suspension arm bushings Car lowered 2 inches the right way with custom suspension arms up front and blocks in rear (no negative effects on ride ...no modification to springs or shocks). Custom cast iron dual exhaust manifold with new dual exhaust system installed (produces a not too loud but mellow note). New gas tank and sender (tank can be used for fuel injection if desired) Almost new 15" wide whitewall tires on wider 15" rims (6 lug) for a better stance. Rebuilt deluxe original heater and defroster with new hoses and shutoff valve under hood and new defroster hoses. Chrome windshield garnish mouldings. New windshield and window glass (a couple of window glasses left with Argentina idenity) Operating vacuum wipers....not the greatest. Brakes rebuilt: master and wheel cylinders, linings almost new. All new weatherstripping and felt for windshield, rear and all side glass, doors hood cowl and trunk. Horn works (also sometimes when you go around corner...needs adjustment). Operating spotlight. Visor made in Argentina. Working speedo, clock, gas guage and temp guage. (oil presure line needs hooking up as well as amp meter wired correctly). Rocker panels replaced a some point Nice base coat/clear coat paint about 2 years old but has numerous spots that need attention. Steering box needs adjustment or rebuild as there is play in wheel. 12 volt system with alternator. Operating brake lights; operating turn signals. Beautiful 6 button radio that I have not tried to hook up due to 6 volt and positive gound of radio (it may be a short wave) A vert rare "lucky strike" shift knob. Doors close good, but door to body margins are not the greatest. Car is certainly not perfect, but is a striking example of the art decor era of automobiles tweeked a bit for more modern tastes. Cranks quickly with a turn of the key (no floor starter button), seems to run fine, has good power and does not overheat. You will be popular at car shows. I would suggest that if you are a serious buyer, fly here and I will pick you up at airport. You need to see this car in person . Call me with questions at 904 993-0826.
