Vehicle Detail

gonzofishes Store Allow me to introduce my 1989 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet. She is 1 of 160 cars built to commemorate the 911’s Silver Anniversary. This Carrera is Arctic Silver with Linen leather interior. I am only the third proud owner of this very well sorted Porsche. Mechanically, you will find her in fantastic condition. From a collector’s or aficionado’s viewpoint, she is all original except for the top and the steering wheel treatment. The original two-piece top was in poor condition when I purchased the car and I have replaced it with a new Haartz canvas, 993-style top. I still have the original top and the single cross member that is required should you choose to revert to a two-piece configuration for a concours restoration. The cockpit has been fitted with a period-correct vintage Momo steering wheel and a matching Personal leather shift knob. I do still have the original pieces. All of the leather is in excellent condition (9 of 10) and functional. There are two small rubs on the driver seat, one on the left bolster and the other around the controls for the power seat. I documented both in my photos. The carpets are original and in very good condition as well (8.5 of 10). The only discolored or matted section in the whole car is the abutment to the left of the clutch pedal which becomes a footrest. It shows some mild discoloration, but isn’t torn or worn through. All of the Arctic Silver paint is original and in very good condition in light of the 21 years of age (8.5 of 10). There are a few small stone chips near the nose and a little haze in the clearcoat on the deck lid and rear rubber bumper cover. The entire car can be brought up to a 9.5 with a buffer. Mechanically, you will find this 911 exceptional. There are only a couple of very minor items left to be addressed. First, the power top (the limited edition cars had a power roof) has the arms from the transmissions disconnected. I have the parts, the motors work, as do the transmissions, I use the power latching mechanism, I just didn’t put the arms back on when I switched the top – I was simultaneously working on a 944 and got caught up in the other project. Second, the turn signal/high beam stalk sometimes trips the high beams. Both the high beams, and the turn signals work fine, it’s just a little annoying. I bought a replacement one out of another 911 which was being parted and it worked well for a while, but she recently started acting up again. I suppose I need to break down and go to Porsche and just pay up for a new bugger… And finally, the emergency brake switch is fouled which causes the brake indicator light to stay on all the time. This one is both simple and cheap. I ordered a new switch from Porsche, however, it is backordered. If it comes in any time soon, I will replace it, if not, I will send it to the car’s new owner. None of these minor imperfections affect driving this car whatsoever. Accordingly, I have just been enjoying her instead of screwing around with repair work. If I still own the car in the winter I will do these little fixes, but since I live in NJ, she is only a three season driver for me and the whole summer was too hot to work in a 120 degree garage… As a collector’s note, the car doesn't have her original stereo. Instead she has an Alpine head unit with a CD player. I don’t have the original stereo – it was swapped out for the Alpine when I purchased the car. Since it would typically be the last thing I’d do when sorting out a car like this and it sounds pretty nice, I never really gave it much thought. All told, this Carrera is really, really sound. She doesn't leak or tick. Her clutch is awesome and the 3.2/G50 combo is tight and runs strong. She has a new Bosch alternator, new battery and new rear tires. The wheels are the original - painted-to-match - Fuchs. The car’s air conditioner was charged with Duracool refrigerant so the air even blows cold (which, by all means, is unbelievable for a 911). She has power windows, locks, driver’s seat, and a short throw shifter (factory). I recently spent the three bills and ordered custom Cocomats – black sisal with silver dots (they look awesome). The factory tool kit is perfect with even the drop cloth and plastic gloves in their unopened plastic bag. I have the original books and manuals, and I have all of my receipts and service records, and quite a few from the prior owners. I even have the original touch-up paint from Porsche - never opened – still in its sealed plastic bag. She is registered with Porsche and has a Certificate of Authenticity. While she is 21 years old, this 911 is an honest gem. All-in-all, this is a really special car. I am an officer of a public company and we have just gotten killed. Because of what’s going on with my company, I just cannot afford to finish the car to show condition and I can’t bear to walk by it every day in the garage either - it's absolutely breaking my heart. I have hundreds of photos and can make videos if you like. The car can be seen or driven in central NJ. I will also bring it to a mechanic of your choosing for an inspection (your dime) or make my mechanic available for questions or comments. Feel free to email me for any additional details or questions. Finally, this eBay ad is being run simultaneously with ads in Excellence Magazine, my PCA publication, and in local media. I reserve the right to end the auction early if the car is sold locally or I can finagle a way to afford her. I do love this Porsche, but I am not unrealistic with my pricing expectations. The title is clear and in hand so I am not in a forced-to-sell position either. I will entertain any realistic offer but please don’t insult me.
