Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder. This car was a trade in from a military family - I am now selling it after letting it sit for over a year and a half. The mileage is low at 92k. The motor is strong and delivers a consistent peppy performancewith no oil leaks or smoking of any kind . The transmission shifts 100% and performs as it should. I just had the car repainted and so the finish is brand new. Only the routine minor dings (they don’t show up in pictures) for a vehicle of this vintage are present – again the finish is like new because it is new. The paint had no rust but it had a lot of sun damage for sitting in the elements for so long. This vehicle has never been in an accident per autocheck. Additionally, the undercarriage of the car has no rust either so the new paint will serve well for a number of years. It is a convertible and the top functions perfectly when automatically opening or closing. All of the electronics function properly as well. The radio does require a code to function as the battery had to be jumped in order to start the car initially, so the anti-theft system engaged. A simple trip to a Mitsubishi dealership will get you the necessary code for free to get it started again. (If I have the time prior to pick-up I may get this done.) The interior is overall pretty clean, free of any dark spots or stains. The main issue that will have to be addressed is the headliner: The filler material inside the liner has dry-rotted and needs to be replaced – consequently, the edges around the rear window allow water to leak in during heavy rains. The water does not leak onto the seats, just in the “pocket” area where the roof lays down with the top open. I have vacuumed it out with a wetvac once or twice to keep it dry, but once the liner/roof is replaced this issue disappears. The roof is canvas and seems to be is decent shape so I don’t think both will need to be replaced but I have priced a couple of folks on ebay and looked on google to order the top and/or headliner and the prices range from $150-375 and the labor for the shops in my area to replace it have quoted me prices ranging from $150-250. It’s a pretty straight-forward job, remove the top replace the top but my recommendation is to purchase the headliner/top separately and then get an upholsterer to do the labor only. It seems to costs a lot less. Additionally, the passenger side-view mirror was cracked as I was pulling out of my garage (minor fix – but now you know.) The car is in better than decent shape and just requires minimal TLC to get it back to showroom quality. The gas mileage is still in the mid-30’s and it is a blast to drive with the gorgeous weather we have had lately. Mechanically, the car is sound, everything that requires attention is just aesthetics and don’t hinder the performance of the car. Please bid with confidence and sincerity.
