Vehicle Detail
You are looking at an oh so rare, 1946 Cadillac Carved Hearse, by the Meteor Coach Company. I have seen many earlier carved coaches, but never one this late. As you can see, it needs ALOT of help, and is not for the faint of heart!! The unique carved hearse parts, however are all there. It was evidently built for the Jorann funeral home, as evidenced by the intricate door crest. These cars had cast aluminum center panels, which gave them a cathedral or gothic appearance. This theme was continued in the interior of the car with wooden beams, arches, sconces, etc. This would truly make a unique car when restored, and could command a premuim in use for special request funerals. I am including a 1948 Meteor Cadillac Ambulance parts car, which has an non orignal engine which is not locked up, and good body panels, fenders, etc, so please keep that in mind when bidding.. the auction is actually for 2 (TWO) vehicles. You could either source an original flat head motor, or use the late model, possibly 472 or 500 cubic inch engine as a more relaible alternative. The photos speak for themselves. Many of these cars, once retired from funeral service in the USA were exported to latin america and abroad. Others that remained here in the states were left to rot, were junked for their motors and chrome trim, so these are truly few and far between. Also, the heyday of the carved hearse was really the 1930's-early 1940's, so something as late as 1946 is unusual to say the least. The cars are located in Colorado, not Texas, and were part of a trade deal I did a few months ago with the previous owner. Both cars are sold on bill of sale, as this was how he acquired them. If you require a title for export, or other reasons, a bonded title can be secured, but keep in mind, it will take at least 30 days to secure one. Please note that I reserve the right to end the auction at any time, as the cars are for sale elsewhere.
