1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ I purchased this Jeep about 2 months ago as a toy/project. It was not lifted at the time, and was stock. I am only selling it now because I am moving and do not have time to work on this. I started by installing a used lift kit of unknown manufacture. It netted a true 5 inches of lift. I believe it is a Rough Country lift, but I am not sure. It has tubular lower control arms and lift springs, not spacers. I did use some 2 inch spacers in the rear, but it actually sits kinda high in the back and they could be removed. I upgraded the rear shocks to some BDS shocks I had left over from another project. The body is now 99 percent rust free. When I got it the bottom of the doors and tailgate were rotted out, so I replaced them with rust free ones from the junkyard. The hood and pass front fender are dented, I have both of those, which come with the vehicle. The fender is brand new. The only rust spot is a small quarter sized hole in the bottom of the A-pillar inside the driver door. I sand blasted it and put some rust - preventer on it. The interior is very nice, with only one small hole in the carpet and some minor cracking on the front two armrests. The dash lights sometimes flicker at night because the dash dimmer switch needs to be replaced. The wheels are 15x8 american racing and the tires are generic 31 inch all terrains with approx 50 percent tread left. I was driving this about 250 miles a day for work until last week. The trans shifts very nicely. The 4.0 engine is worn and makes ticking sounds. It may have a lower end knock as well. I drove it like this every day, but it is getting worse over time. The engine will need to be replaced or rebuilt. You can probably drive it home though, and it may go on a long time like this. A freind of mine has driven his 4.0 with similar noises for the last 50,000 miles. One other known issue is the Dana 35 rear axle. It is bent slightly, which I found out is very common on these model jeeps. I was getting some slight dragging type feeling when turning corners so I had it checked. The pass side is bent 2 degrees and the drivers is 1.5 degrees. Evidently this is so common that most junkyard housings are the same. It did not appear to cause any other issues, but I wanted to disclose this. The front dana 30 is very straight with no issues. The gear ratio is 3.55. I planned on swapping in a Ford 8.8 and bought a swap kit from Iron Rock Offroad for $249.00. I will sell this kit to the high bidder for $200 if they would like it. It is not included in the auction. All of the electrical system, including the overhead lights and compass, work great. The only two things I know that do not are the driver side rear speaker, and the pass side rear power window intermittantly will not go down. Transfer case is a 242, and the front axle is the U-joint style. Front brakes are brand new and back are in good shape. Also included in this auction is a factory style hitch and gas tank skid plate.
