Vehicle Detail
My wife wants me to clean out the grage, so I am offering this car with no reserve, and an opening bid well below it's market value. This is a nice car to drive as it is, or as the basis for a better restoration. I bought it with the intention of doing a restoration at the same time that I had a driver for weekend expeditions, but I've grown uninterested in the period and so the car just sits in the garage... 1955 Ford two door Club Sedan. 272 Y-block and automatic transmission. Since I’ve had it, I’ve rebuilt the carburetor and the fuel pump, replaced the shock absorbers all around, installed an original air cleaner, replaced the bushings on the sway bar, installed a NOS wind-up clock, and had the radio rebuilt into a modern AM/FM unit (five hundred dollars right there…). Converted to 12 volt, with 12 volt (1956) gas gauge installed. All the gauges work with the exception of the generator light. Runs strong and dependably, with no smoke or noises. Previous owner put in electric windshield wipers, and rebuilt the brakes. Stops very nicely for manual 4 wheel drums. No power steering or power brakes. Brand new WWW spare and trunk mat. New door seals ready to install. No cracks or cloudiness in the glass, and all the windows except for the right rear go up and down correctly. The interior is in excellent condition, with no rips or worn spots in the upholstery. Good headliner. This car is a good driver, with only small projects left for completion (it needs a front floor heater plenum, for instance—I have a replacement, but I’m not sure it’s correct for this car). Paint job is recent and a 7 out of 10. The chrome is original and thinning. Not a show car, but as good a cruiser as you’re going to find. The rear quarterpanels have been rebuilt with plastic--see the pictures; not an excellent job, but adequate. While looking at the frame (it's solid...) to answer a question, I happened to get a close-up look at the bottom section of the driver's door--there is a little rusty chip, about the size of a third of a fingernail, close to the leading edge. Nothing serious or disfiguring, but it may be a sign that some body work will be needed there in a few years, so I thought I'd better mention it... I also noticed that the door isn't aligned quite right--it's too tight at the top and a little too far out at the bottom; the hinges need adjustment. Vehicle is located in southern New Jersey, twenty miles south of the Philadelphia/Camden area, easily accessble from I95, I295, Rt. 55, and the New Jersey Turnpike.
