You've all heard about the cool old car or truck stored away in a barn or old garage in great shape! Well this is sort of like that ......my 1988 Toyota SR5 4Runner has been stored away in our garage since August of 2001. I had purchased it as a daily driver just a few months before and it ran great! Suddenly one day , it lost power and when I took it to a local mechanic, I was told it had blown a head gasket (apparently a common issue on the V6 models) . So I told them to go ahead and repair it. When I stopped by the shop 2 days later to check on the progress, I was told that the shop owner had been in a bad accident , breaking his back , and that the shop would be closed until he healed. A few weeks went by and I was then told that the shop was not going to be reopened and that I had to have my Toyota towed somewhere else. Unfortunately, none of the other local shops would touch the job , since the engine was now in pieces! So I had it towed home and placed it in my garage. As luck would have it , a guy down the street had a 1990 4Runner that was completely rotted out but had a strong motor. I bought that truck just for the engine and began to swap the old for the newer. I have the newer engine installed between the frame mounts but that's where I stopped. Never had the time to finish it up and got a new job that gives me a company truck to drive. So here it sits , for 9 years , waiting to be finished , or parted out , or converted to a V8, or a rock crawler .......Something!I put new tires and wheel bearings on it right before it was parked , it is fully loaded, V6, power windows, door locks , a/c, factory sunroof, 4wd, 4spd automatic,removable top, roll bar,push bar , driving lights. If you want a good 4runner for just a bit of work , you can probably get this up and running in a weekend with your buddies. Or you can buy it as one heck of a parts truck. Or use it as a starting point for an offroad project!This truck only has 3 small rust spots (see pics), one behind the right rear tire, one on the gas door, and one on the left rear window frame. The latter 2 can be fixed just by replacing the parts.I will include all the parts to finish the motor swap as well as the parts from the old engine . Obviously , since this truck is NOT running now , it will need to be picked up and towed or trailered away. Or for a price, I can put it on my brother-in-laws trailer and deliver it within 100 miles of Honesdale PA.
