Vehicle Detail
Here is your chance to own a very unique Ford Ranger. I purchased this ranger used in 1998. I was working at a body shop at the time, and this was my daily driver. The shop owner and myself decided to start building a truck to take on the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour. The truck's body was completely restored from bumper to bumper, and a custom flame job was done by myself. Our base color was a mono-chromatic pink, popular on the pro-street cars and trucks of the 90's. We also installed dual flowmaster mufflers. The interior was completly restored, and new carpet was installed. The stake bed pockets were filled in, as was the ford emblem on the tailgate. There was over 1,000 hours put into this body. By the 2000 power tour it was ready. I left from Michigan to drive to San Bernadino California, where the power tour started. While driving through Golden Colorado, a jeep lost a wheel on the other side of the freeway, and it came over and went right through the front of the truck, destroying the hood, pushing the pass fender back, and cracking the windshield. The battery also exploded, burning the underhood wiring and myself when I stepped out of the truck. The great people of Golden came together and helped me put the truck back into running condition. We had to loose the hood, and a new radiator and wiring was purchased. About 24 hours later I kept on my journey, arriving in San Bernadino on time. Since the truck was going to need to re-visit the body shop again, I let all the people on the power tour sign it. Several famous people signed it as well, such as Vic and Cammy Edelbrock, George Poteet, and the entire staff of the magazine in 2000. The truck even ended up in the October 2000 issue of Hot Rod. I drove the entire long haul of the power tour, arriving in Panama City Beach Florida, where the truck was featured on the local news, as it now was covered with signatures. It was also featured on mothers.com, and I think it still may be. After arriving back home I planned to re-do the truck, but family and freinds asked me to preserve it, so we replaced the bashed up hood and grille, and clearcoated over the signatures on the truck. My wife and I decided to do the long haul again the following year, and we did, where the truck became a celebrity of sorts once again. After we returned from the 2001 power tour it was parked inside, and wasn't brought out again until today. Since sitting for 9 years indoors, the truck has stayed very well preserved. I was astonished when it fired right up and I was able to drive it into town for a bath. While driving the truck I noticed the tires have flat spotted. They will need to be replaced. The truck is mechanically stock. It has the 2.9 V6 that runs but needs a tuneup and fresh gas. The trans is a five speed, and the clutch was replaced before the 2001 power tour and has less than 6,000 miles on it. The interior has shown some wear. The headliner is starting to droop, and the carpet and the front of the seat is starting to show some mold. It will need a good cleaning. There is no radio. The truck ran and drove great, and I think with some fresh gas and new tires it would be like new again. Everything still appears to work, however keep in mind that it has been sitting and will need some attention. I believe it would make a long trip if you put new tires on it. If the high bidder would like me to arange to have tires put on it, I can do so at their cost. If the high bidder would like to fly in, I can pick them up at the Detroit Metro Airport. Short distances on these tires may be fine, but if you are going a long distance, I would trailer it if you aren't putting tires on it. The body has held up very well. It is only starting to pop some minor rust around the drivers rear wheel opening, and around the inside/bottom of the drivers door. The floors are very solid, as are the body mounts. The body mount bushings are worn and may need future replacement. The frame is very solid. The brakes still work very well, and the exhaust is still very solid. The only reason I'm selling this truck is that I've done nothing with it for 9 years, and am now moving. The truck would make a great driver, dune runner, hot rod, or candidate for a pro-street build. Or you could leave it as is. It is very solid for an 87 ranger. Full payment will be due within 7 days of auction close. Truck must be picked up within 30 days. Failure to pick up within 30 days results in forfieture of rights to item, and no refunds will be made. Truck sold AS IS - WHERE IS. Bid Early-Bid Often-Good Luck!
