Vehicle Detail
Just found out that a baby is on the way so my Spitfire has to go. This is a clean rust free example that runs well. It was repainted before I purchased it. The previous owner had it professionally painted a metallic red. It is not the original red, but the whole car was stripped of trim and interior before painting so all the seals and firewall look good. It is not perfect but does not have any major flaws. The top is fairly new too along with the seat covers and carpet. The previous owner also installed a custom dash in place of the original wood one. It would not be hard to switch it back to an original and clean dashes are available on ebay for around $200. I liked the look of the aluminum dash so I left it. The steering wheel and gauges are originally and all seem to work properly. I cannot guarantee the mileage but I believe that the car has 52,000 miles. The engine is clean and does not appear to have been rebuilt. I changed the valve cover gasket to fix a small oil leak but it does look like it is going to need a new oil pan gasket prevent any further leaks. The engine has even compression. It is not a high horsepower engine but does pull well. The only upgrade I would have liked to make was to add the duals carbs and manifold used on the European models. It is a $200 upgrade that is supposed to add some power. The car has plenty of power for cruising though and can keep up with modern traffic on the interstate. The transmission shifts smoothly and the factory overdrive works great. It shifts into overdrive using the shift mounted switch while in third or fourth. Overdrive is a must have on these cars and really makes high speeds more comfortable. Tires are almost like new and the rims are in good shape. 1972 was one of the best years because the rear suspension had finally been fixed so it would handle correctly and it is still old enough to qualify for many events and rallies. The floors and trunk are solid without rust. The shocks feel good and may have been replaced recently, but I cannot confirm that. The brakes work well for a Spitfire and the handbrake still works. The glass has no cracks but there are some chips on the side windows and it could use a polish. The bumpers also have some minor pitting but not dings or rust. As far as I know all the electronics work fine and the convertible top goes up and down easily. The engine compartment and trunk are very clean. Includes original spare and jack. I also have some manuals and papers from the previous owner. The car is not perfect but it is a great driver that can still be taken to car shows or events. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me. Clear title. Buyer will need to arrange shipping. Thanks!
