Vehicle Detail
Thank you for looking at my auction. I'm pretty straight forward so I'm not going to sugar coat or blow smoke in this description. This auction is for a 1995 Jeep Cherokee which I purchased in September of 1997 for my wife to use while she was an RCA at our local post office. It is FACTORY right hand drive. It has the 4.0 liter engine, an automatic transmission and is also 4 wheel drive. I paid slightly over $6000 when I purchased it. At the time of purchase it had 136k miles. In December of 2009, my wife became a regular carrier and was responsible for a route which had an LLV assigned to it. I removed the metal mail tray and installed the passenger seat. I've been using this Jeep as a daily driver since then, averaging probably 50-60 miles a day. The Jeep now has about 166k miles on it. It starts immediately every time I get in it and has been incredibly reliable. The body and mirror have some scratches on the driver side as to be expected. The worst scratch is on the hood and was placed there during it's last day of use when the wife slid on some sand and caught the bottom of a mailbox. (at least thats what I was told, lol). The exterior is not perfect, but it has no significant damage. It's in nice enough condition to be driven every day without being embarassed to be seen in it. The interior is also not perfect, but I consider it completely acceptable. Once again, I'm not embarassed to give a friend a ride home in the jeep. The previous owner had installed an ftermarket CD player in the dashboard. It didn't fit the factory radio cutout and it looked like they took a pair of cutters to the dashboard to make the hole bigger and then installed the radio and covered the slick work with black tape to help it blend in. I removed that cover and cleaned up the hole so it wasn't as crappy looking. I also managed to find a brand new factory OEM dashboard cover to replace the one which had been cut up. I haven't installed it because I wanted to wait until I found a nice OEM radio to fit it. This new cover will be included with the jeep. Sometimes when you first start up the jeep, the speedometer will stick at zero. A tap on the plastic cover pops it loose. The fan blower only worked on fast speed when I bought the car. I installed a brand new blower motor resistor and the fan now works in all speeds. The air conditioning works for those hot summer days and the heat works for the cold winter days. I think the two things my wife hates the most about the post office LLVs is they have no AC and no radio. This jeep does. Something I need to mention is that if the jeep is out in a real bad rain storm, it sometimes gets damp on the passenger side carpet. I suspect the cowl vent or something is not draining fast enough on that side to handle big storms well. We kept the car in the garage so it was not a big deal. I only noticed it due to driving to work/parking at work on a couple days when a big storm passed through. Mechanical stuff: The brakes have been done within the last year. The engine runs good. The transmission works good. The 4 wheel drive works good. The power steering works good. The power brakes work good. It had new tires put on about 2 years ago. The back tires are still in really good shape. The front tires are showing some wear. The jeep gets a small vibration at about 65mph, so they probably need to be balanced. When I bought it, the jeep came with a spare set of rims with winter tires. They will be included in the sale. I recently had new rubber bushings installed in the front upper and lower control arms. The original bushings were really worn out, allowing the front axle to move a bit. Ever since having the bushings replaced, the jeep pulls slightly to the left when on the highway. Apparently the jeep was aligned while the bushings were worn and the new bushings have thrown it off a bit. The transmission works fine, but it does have a minor drip. If you park it in the garage overnight, there will be a few drops of fluid on the floor the next morning. I don't consider it a problem and just add a little fluid each month. The driver side door appears to have had a hinge come loose at some point during he previous owners time. I can see where it was welded back in place, but not perfectly back in place. The door makes a click noise when it is opened/closed. This has no effect on it opening/closing/locking. (Added 9/7...also had a new RHD radiator installed about a month after purchasing it. The old one was seeping ) I have some extra stuff that goes with the jeep. I have an extra set of tail lights, a set of brand new head lights( edited on 9/7 at 9:55pm...there is now only one extra new headlight. Driverside low beam light was out this evening so I installed one), the dashboard cover piece (as mentioned earler), 4 spare rims and tires, a set of new rear brake shoes, a new oil filter, a new transmission mount (bought it when doing the control arm bushings) and MOST IMPORTANT.....the metal tray assembly that mounts in the passenger seat bolt holes. This tray holds 3 of the large size mail trays. My wife really enjoyed having this jeep. I also enjoyed driving this jeep, but it's time for me to go back to my F150 and let another carrier put it to good use. I really have no use for multiple cars. Plus, we're closing on a house soon and a bit of extra $$ always comes in handy. This slightly battle scarred jeep will not compare visually with the low milage, imported from Japan, perfect little pretty jeeps. BUT, it has been through it's own trial by fire and has served extremely well in real day to day mail routes and has been 100% reliable during the 9 months of daily driver use I've put it through. I expect it will continue to do so for many years to come. AND, the dog is NOT included....he was being curious so I decided to let him have his 5 minutes of fame........... I've done my best to describe this vehicle. I may have forgotten some stuff. If you're the winning bidder, please be prepared to make payment in the amount of the winning bid. Please don't show up at my door to kick tires, nit pick and try to negotiate a different price. I'll most likely look at you funny and then you'll be asked to leave. You will have wasted your time and mine. Now, if you get here and it suddenly has 4 flat tires, broken windows and a connecting rod sticking out of the engine block, I would probably allow some negotiation. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I'll answer any questions you may have. If you have any doubts about me, check my feedback or check my website at topmotorrepair dot com. I think you'll see I'm straight forward and honest.
