Vehicle Detail
This is an amazing , clean , original and low hour machine. I bought this bike from the second owner and it had been sitting for several years. The early water cooled 500's had magnesium clutch covers which were prone to corrosion from the coolant. The cover had been removed as he thought it was a bad water pump seal.I updated the one piece clutch cover with a two piece from a 1992 CR 500. The are made of aluminum which doesn't corrode and the two piece design allows for easy clutch service. The inlet tube on the newer cover is a at a different angle so I had to modify the coolant hose , basically splicing two together. It works fine but you you could always take it to Goodyear and have them make a one piece hose. After replacing cover I changed all fluids and put a little oil down the cylinder and turned engine over to lube it up. I put a eye dropper full of fuel in the cylinder and installed a new plug.It fired up in one kick ! I let it warm up for 15 minutes or so and and ran it up the street. It's the sickest dirtbike I ever rode.I weight 210 pounds and I could not keep the front end down in any gear.It idles smoothly and all day long if you let it.The clutch worked fine and it shifted smoothly, It makes NO strange noises. It runs like a Honda ! It doesn't look like a bolt has ever been turned on the engine. I would bet it is the original top end. When I had the clutch cover off I noticed there was absolutely NO grooving in the basket. I think the tires might even be original. The front rim has no scratching at all and look at the tread ! The back rim has a couple scratches on one side. The rear tire is worn but it looks like some one rode it on the street a lot.The tires are a matched set of Dunlop Sport K-490's.Both rims are straight and spin tru with tight bearings and spokes.I removed the tank , side covers , pipe ,seat and subframe in order to detail it and took a couple of pics to show how clean and original this bike is.The seat cover and the fork boots are perfect with NO rips or tears. The radiators are straight as can be.The pipe is excellent with a couple fingernail size dings on bottom. All the finishes on the bike are original with the exception of the pipe which I painted with high heat ceramic paint. The non original parts on the bike are gold renthal bars , gold renthal rear sprocket , UNI air filter and yellow number plate decals. The chain and sprocket show NO wear and seem almost brand new.The gas tank , rad shrouds and side covers are in good shape with some minor scratching. The "500" decals are real nice. The fenders do have some heavier scratching and the rear is slightly twisted.Overall this bike is in unbelievable condtion for a 24 year old motocross bike. I have tried to describe this bike accurately and to the best of my ability however this bike is being sold "as is" just like Honda did when it was brand new.Bill of sale only , NO title. Please feel free to ask any questions or arrange in person inspection. I'm located 11 miles East of downtown Pittsburgh. Thanks for your interest , Mike On Sep-08-10 at 16:44:58 PDT, seller added the following information: I have been getting a lot of inquiries about shipping this bike. I have no way of doing so with out going through a third party shipping company and it would be hard to get quotes for everyone. If you want to do the research I will cooperate with whoever you choose to ship bike.I live in Pittsburgh Pa 15235 , Penn Hills Pa 15235 also works .If you win the auction there is no hurry to pick up the bike as long as you pay for it in a timely manner .I have added a picture of the VIN...if you cant read it in the picture it is JH2PE0204GC500644.....I appreciate all the interest,Mike
