Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a well maintained 1996 Mercedes- Benz s420. I have owned this car for 3 years with minimal problems during that time. It has 135k miles and runs flawlessly. The engine has a great deal of power as it should for an 8-cylinder car and the transmission shifts with no issues whatsoever. I just had the oil changed about a month ago and have only put on 150 miles since. Transmission fluid was flushed and changed last summer. I have all of the records from the time that I have owned it and I can provide copies if requested. It has been garaged for the time that we have owned it and the paint shows in this manner. It has a couple of small dings that are pictured but they are below average for a vehicle of this vintage. The main one being a small “swipe” on the lower panel of the driver’s side rear door. The paint is in overall great condition as the car cleans up very well. The interior has no stains or excessive wear worth mentioning here. The leather is crack free – there is a small amount of wear on the driver’s seat (pictured) but nowhere else in the vehicle. The carpet is in better than average condition. All amenities function properly on the car. This particular year of Mercedes had a problem with the a/c core and condenser that at the end of 9 or 10 years would require replacement to the tune of $2500 and up. I know this because just last summer we had this unit replaced and it costs us $3300 to do so. Needless to say the A/C blows like the arctic and the heat works as well. The tires have plenty of tread left on them – if I had to estimate I’d say about 60 to 70% tread left. The trunk is stain free. The car has no leaks or rust of any kind. We never drove it in the snow or any icy conditions Issues: 1. The engine needs a valve adjustment – evidenced by a slight tapping sound. It does not burn or leak oil. This does not affect the performance of the car in any way and it can be driven without incident to anywhere you choose but it does require this service if you choose to do so. My mechanic assured me that it is just an adjustment – labor only no parts necessary and not a major problem; 2. The radio might need to be replaced. It works properly for the exception of the volume control that doesn’t respond (sometimes) when adjusted. This is a minor thing. It has done this since I bought it and I saw no need to spend additional money on a functioning radio but I wanted to include it in the description anyway. Overall, the car is in great shape. I love owning and driving it, but my wife and I are downsizing and buying smaller vehicles that cost less to own (premium gas, maintenance, etc.) No other car in the world drives like a Mercedes-Benz. On the road, the gas mileage is in the mid to upper 20’s. It’s quiet and luxurious. The next owner will be very happy. The reserve is low and fair. Please bid with confidence. My mechanic’s name and number can be forwarded with the car if you live locally (Maryland, DC or Virginia) and wish to continue servicing it with him. He is a Mercedes trained mechanic, very knowledgeable and moderately priced (not overly expensive but not cheap either – fair.)
