Vehicle Detail

In 1974 Porsche introduced a new look for the Porsche 911. The driving force behind these changes were the newer safety laws. Some companies failed miserably - the 1973 and 1974 Jaguar E Types sporting huge burned loafs of bread on the front of the car. Porsche however made the transition with poise and grace and really improved the safety of the car not only for the passengers - but the car itself with telescoping bumpers that could move into the body and then return to their original positions still intact... My case in point - an acquaintance ( you know who you are - Jim) did not listen to me to stop pushing a 1969 911 into my garage (with his BMW a tire in between) a maneuver I have done many times - his extra push moved the over riders into a less than desirable position and dented the rear panel. In my 1986 911 I was in one of those accidents where I am stopped and someone slammed into me and I slammed into the person in front of me. Fortuneatelt the car in fron of me was a Porsche of a similar year and had no rear end damage. I had no front or rear damage and the car behind me had to be towed from front and rear damage. Many people with the older body style also like the new look and took their cars to dealers and body shops to have them converted. The good ones were done with factory metal while the less than the best were done with fiberglass pieces and non functioning bumpers. Now many want the old one but the prices are climbing for good ones. This being the beginning of a new design was also the end of other ascpects of design as the bodies in subsequent years became progressively wider as the wheel well flares continued to grow. Please notice that this car also has the narrower "rubber baby buggy bumpers" on the rear which maintained a more delicate look. Just like the 1965 to 1973 Porsches are going up in value this next style is poised to follow them. 1974 Porsche 911 2.7 Liter, 5 speed coupe. Red with black interior. Showing 4337 miles. Obviously add 100,000 miles to it - even though it looks like it could have 4000 plus miles. I purchased the car about a year ago and have lost interest in the project. The car was serviced regularly by Carerra Sports in Tallahassee, FL by Vernon Crotts. The brakes were totally gone through several years ago and last year the previous owner put a hole in the engine case. I have obtained a good 7R engine case. There are currently 3 7R cases on rbay from $400 to over $1600. The 7R cases are the desireable 2.7 Liter cases as they were made stronger to prevent the head studs from stretching or pulling out. I have had several opinions as to which way to go. There are several viable senarios: 1) Use the new engine case and all salvageable components from the original engine and rebuild it; 2) Find a completely different Porsche engine larger or smaller, used or rebuilt - here on ebay is a great source from $3500 and up; 3) Chuck Beck At Sebring once said to me that he could build a reliable VW 4 cylinder that would out perform a Porsche air cooled six under 3.0 Liters. My choice would be to look into #1 first. #2 I have a rebuilt 2.2 Liter with rebuilt carbs, rebuilt transmission, rebuilt LSD and new clutch components - all work performed by RPM Engineering, Knowville, TN a F1 fabrication and repair machine shop! #3 I believe Chuck Beck. The body is in above average condition and the paint is a 9.5 out of 10. There is a small dent in the top of the right rear quarter panel (very easy to massage out but the oil tank will need to be removed - easy to do once the engine has been removed) The tires are in excellent condition and are Kuhmo 195x65R15. The interior is in excellent condition and the front seats have a cloth center insert for more comfortable driving in the summer or winter; however, this car appears to have always been a Southern car by the absence of rust. The floor pan is solid. Glass is in excellent condition. The rear side windows still vent and the car is a coupe for the best rigidity of all 911s. Normally I would remove window tint but without an AC and the high quality tint I am leaving it in the car. All I have done is pushed the car out of the garage over to the carport and washed it. I am going to polish it and vacuum the interior and take some pictures of the engine compartment after I clean out the pine needles that were in it with the cobwebs when I purchased it 2 years ago - SO IT IS GOING TO LOOK EVEN BETTER!!! I needed a day off so if there are no bids I will try to add these photos to this auction tomorrow, Sunday; otherwise I will be able to email them to you. Any questions please contact me through ebay messaging system. Any picture requests that I am able to accomodate I will be happy to do so. Now for the unpleasantries. PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU HAVE TO GET ANYONE'S PERMISSION TO BUY THE CAR. THIS IS A GREAT CAR AT A REASONABLE STARTING BID AND IF YOU BID AND WIN THE CAR IT IS YOURS - AN AUCTION IS NOT AN INVITATION TO COME LOOK AT IT AND CHANGE YOUR MIND. I RECENTLY SHIPPED A 1973 PORSCHE 911RS CLONE TO GERMANY AND THE BUYER WAS MOST COMPLIMENTARY. LOOK AT MY FEEDBACK AND BID WITH CONFIDENCE!On Aug-15-10 at 15:24:35 PDT, seller added the following information: I have added additional pictures of the engine, front luggage compartment and the underside of the car where I could get low enough to gather some pictures. As to rust: there are two or three small (about the sive of this: o) on the drivers rear fender; light surface rust in the front (emphasis on surface) and surface rust on the driver's floor. When looking at the engine compartment picture what might appear to be rust on the original blue color of the car is contact cement. The BODY: The fit is truly amazing for this 36 year old car as all of the margins (the gaps between the doors and the body; doors and front fenders; front hood and fenders; rear engine lid etc....) are all equal! The car's rubber is all in good to excellent condition. All of the windows are original to the car with the exception of the windshield which is engraved SOLEX DUPLICATE (This leads me to believe that this may have been a European Delivery Car for a US Serviceman stationed in England). The Interior - no rips or tears in any of the seats and one small tear in the headliner (about 1 inch and should not get larger). The headliner is still in place as it should be with no droops or sags. The ENGINE: The engine has no visible signs that I can see of the hole that I was told about - but based on who told me I would say that it is definitely there. The heat exchangers are stainless steel and therefore in very good to excellent condition. The engine is completely intact with only the muffler and heast shield removed. These parts are in the front compartment including all of the nuts, bolts, washers and clamps, muffler and heat shield. The gaskets between the engine an muffler are not there. THE EMPTY 7R ENGINE CASE IS INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION.
