Vehicle Detail
I am reluctantly selling my 1992 Saab 900 S coupe that I purchased a few months ago. Quite frankly, I have an immediate cash need and now don't have much need for a car here in the city. I would like to buy a motorcycle. This car is extremely fun to drive (as are all Saab 900s) and is a really nice example of the classic 900 coupes. As one can see in the photos, it is in very impressive exterior and interior condition for being 18 years old. This would be a great 900 to fully restore, as it has aged very well. The paint looks to be all original and really shines when washed and buffed. The body of the vehicle does not look more than 7 or 8 years old. There is no rust (an uncommon thing for these 900s). However, as pictured, there are a few nicks and scratches (they don't really take away from the look of the vehicle however). I recently had the car up on the rack and the under body is similarly in good shape. That said, it is my belief that the vehicle was garaged throughout the majority of its life. As far as features, the Saab has power locks, windows, and sunroof, all fully functional. The sunroof is one of the retractable types, i.e. there is no glass to it. I find this to be better than a glass top. It closes snugly. The backseat windows are of the popout variety. The car has cold air conditioning that worked very well when it was 95 degrees plus here in DC. It was equipped with heated seats and cruise control at the factory. I am pretty sure the heated seats are no longer working and am unsure as to the cruise control. I have never really needed to use it. The car has a really nice JVC CD player. It works well too. The seats are Elmo leather and were pretty high end when this car was originally manufactured. As is common with the older 900s, the driver's seat is split. The seat is also separated on the side (as pictured). Really not big issues though. There are some cracks in the dash as well. The fabric on the door interiors could also use restapling. The carpets are also stunningly clean and the backseat looks practically unused. It looks as though there were not many passengers. The backseat can also be folded down, allowing one to haul quite a bit of cargo. Mechanically, the car is a 2.1 liter, 4-cylinder with a five-speed transmission that shifts well through all gears. I am pretty sure the gearbox was replaced not too long ago. The car is high mileage but shows no signs of weakening. I know several 900s that did well over 300,000 miles. I wouldn't be surprised if this one went for another 50,000 miles. Also, as is common for older cars, there is an oil leak (does not appear to be coming from the gasket). However, it holds oil very well. I should also note that the "Check Engine" light is NOT on. This is rather rare for a high-mileage vehicle. I recently replaced the muffler, installed a new battery, and gave it a synthetic oil change. The car does have a few minor issues, one of which prevented me from passing inspection in DC. This is also why it still has temp tags. The steering wheel has about 1/3 inch of play up and down. I had it to the shop and they said it just needed new bearings. The bearings are cheap and this would be a relatively easy fix for someone who is good with cars (or for someone has a good friend or mechanic). The shop quoted me several hundred dollars of labor and I just couldn't justify it. This probably wouldn't even need to be fixed as it does not affect driving. Also, the power steering is rather sporadic. It is usually pretty easy to steer but sometimes gets a little stiff. Likewise, this does not really affect the driving. Depending on your state, you may or may not need to address the steering wheel play. Last, after heavy rainfall this week, I noticed that the car did not turn over a couple times. I had to disconnect and reconnect the battery cables to get it to turn over. I think this is owing to the moisture. I have started and driven the car every day this week and the issue has not arose again. Not sure if this problem will occur again. It seems like a random quirk. The buyer may want to have the starter/ignition switch tested. As stated above, there are a few nicks and scratches, the driver's seat is torn, the cloth on the doors needs restapled, and there is a minor oil leak. These are the only outstanding issues to the best of my knowledge. The car also has an inflated spare and jack in the trunk. It will come with the owner's manual and the gas can as pictured. The title is clear and will be signed off to the buyer. The buyer will need to bring his/her own plates as the current tags expire on July 26. The car can be picked up in Rockville, Maryland. I will expect a $250.00 deposit by Paypal within 24 hours of the sale. The remainder will be payable in cash at pickup. I would appreciate if the buyer could some get the car as soon as possible. The location is easily accessible via plane, train, and DC metro. Please, please, please do not bid unless you are absolutely certain you want to buy the car. I really want to get it sold the first time around. Additionally, do not bid if you have no feedback. Thanks for taking a look and feel free to post any questions. Thanks.
