Vehicle Detail
1985 Mercedes-Benz 500SEL Euro, 245 HP, 113k miles, Autobahn Marauder! VIN #WDB1260371A146093 This is one of the fastest Mercedes made during the 1980’s due to its highly-tuned European engine, incorporating a high-performance camshaft and a full dual exhaust system. The US spec car makes 185 horsepower, while this one makes 245+ hp. This car is a blast to drive, and will out accelerate a Corvette or Porsche of similar vintage. These cars were specially imported into the US in the mid-1980’s by knowledgeable aficionados who were looking for the ultimate in performance and quality. The hydraulic suspension keeps the car flat in corners or when hauling a load. I purchased this car about three years ago on Ebay, with the prior owner indicating that it had a bad transmission When I got the car, it turned out to be only a bad switch and some worn shifter bushings. I found that it was a very solid driver and in great cosmetic condition, only needing a rebuilt suspension pump and a new radiator. Car Details: European headlights with level adjusters. European bumpers (small) Cold A/C, R134 Rebuilt suspension pump, hydraulic rear suspension works properly. New radiator. Forged, not cast, Mercedes bundt pan wheels, good tires. Kidney bean exhaust resonators have been replaced with straight pipes. I have a set of used resonators that go with the car. Interior wood in good condition, except console wood has some cracks and screw holes. No dashboard cracks, very rare to find in this condition AM/FM/CD player The car has been repainted, not factory quality, but a solid 9/10. Rust-free. Speedometer reads about 15% high, so true mileage is about 100K. This is common on Euro cars converted to US specs. Front seat cushions and armrest have some cracking in leather, support is still good however. Rear seats are excellent. A $200 set of sheepskins will cure this defect and make the car look perfect. About me: I am a very heavy-duty Mercedes-Benz hobbyist, with over 20 cars ranging from 1962 through 1995 in body series W111, W123, W124, and W126. I have a fully equipped garage with service library and indoor storage facilities for my cars. I am a frequent contributor to various Mercedes Benz bulletin boards. I am not a dealer and rarely sell cars on the open market. This is the fourth car I have sold on Ebay during the past five years. Generally I purchase clean, interesting cars, restore them mechanically, and drive them until I find a new love, and then sell them to my friends. As the years are now catching up with me, I have realized that I need to reduce my collection. Hence this car is now for sale. Check the photos and my feedback, and feel free to email me or give me a call (918-527-5710) with any further questions about this car or any of the 1970-1995 vintage Mercedes models. The car is ready to drive home. I’ll be glad to pick up the successful bidder at the Tulsa, OK, international airport. I can email you further photos of any part of the car you need to see. The reserve on this car is modest.
