Vehicle Detail
1940 PACKARD ONE-TEN 4-DR TOURING SEDAN with original flat head six #C29202D. Comes with 64 page owners manual, two color matched steel fender skirts, and clear Missouri title. Thanks for looking...I trust it will not be a waste of your time. GENERAL: She spent most of her life in southern California and has always been garaged. Non-smoker owner. Runs, drives, and stops well. Starts easily, no unusual engine noises, does not smoke, and carries about 35 psi oil pressure at idle. I don't have documentation but I believe this engine has been previously rebuilt- when I had valve covers off to adjust the valves, I was amazed at how clean and fresh looking the inside of the engine is! Note: the oil pan is not dented- the picture has a shadow in it. Solid well maintained car with good paint which has the common chips and scratches. The interior and carpet are just a couple of years old with no rips or stains. Door weather stripping has been recently replaced. Tires including the spare have about 70 percent remaining life. No evidence of crash damage. Floor pans are solid with only surface rust under car. One Packard hubcap does not match. The pass side vent window has a 3" crack. I do not claim she is a "show car" or "just like new". RECENT MAINTENANCE: New carb, new master cylinder and all four brakes adjusted (brake lining better than 60 percent), new water pump, new radiator hoses, new thermostat, fresh anti-freeze. Reconditioned heater core and new heater hoses. Points and timing adjusted. Valves adjusted and new valve cover gaskets installed, engine oil and filter changed, fresh oil in trany and rear end, new spark plugs, chassis lubed, front wheel bearings packed, new 2-speed electric wiper motor and switch, new wiper blades, new hood wind lace. Some wiring replaced. WHAT WORKS? All the gauges including the speedometer and odometer, both high and low beam head lights, 4-way flashers, parking lights, turn signals, fog lights, dome light, horn, radio & ant, both speeds of heater blower motor, both speeds of the electric wipers, emegency brake. The windows roll up and down, doors open and shut easily, the trany shifts smoothly and quietly in all 3 forward gears and in reverse, and the clutch is strong. WHAT DOES NOT WORK? The overdrive control cable is broken and I have not repaired- never needed to go that fast. The clock is inop and has a cracked lense. MODIFICATIONS: Converted to 12 volt system with a GM alternator-(forget the hassle with weak and unreliable 6 volt systems, remember the auto industry went to 12 volts for a reason). Master battery shut off switch-(great for winter storage and anti-theft). Electric fuel pump and modern fuel filtration-(can't beat the reliability and ease of maintenance). Inside the cab cable controlled valve for heater-(no more opening the hood and manually turning on the water to get heat). Modern am/fm radio with cassette player and four speakers with power antenna-(makes driving even more fun and enjoyable). Locking gas cap. SUMMARY: Wonderful well maintained car with the kind of enhancements that make owning and driving this great example of automotive history fun and hassle free. I can help with transport selection and could deliver myself depending on the distance. Please feel free to contact me directly at (417) 209-4560 with questions.
