kschladetzky Store Click here to get eBay auction software at Auctiva.comUp for sale is a 1998 BMW R1100RS sport touring motorcycle with a set of "city" system cases. I bought the bike (with a salvage title) 5 years ago. I know a lot of potential buyers are going to take one look at the words "salvage title" and decide to pass on this motorcycle. If this were a car, I would probably be one of those people. However, this is a motorcycle, and with a motorcycle, there's really nowhere to hide major structural damage. Of course, unless you live close enough to come inspect the bike in person, you're going to have to trust that my description of the bike is accurate. No matter how you slice it, it's a leap of faith. Now, on to the actual motorcycle. From a structural and mechanical point of view, the bike was pretty much undamaged when I bought it, but it took quite a bit of work (and money) to restore it cosmetically. I ended up replacing the front and rear sub-frames (the sections of the frame that the non-mechanical parts attach to), the main front fairing, and a number of smaller pieces that had been damaged. I also changed all the fluids, replaced the rear tire, tuned it up, replaced the front master cylinder and brake pads, and replaced the rear brake rotor and brake pads. It only has 45,000 miles on it, which for a BMW motorcycle means that it's just getting broken in. Everything on the bike works as it should and it runs great. It does have the typical R-bike issue with the ABS. When you start the bike on a cold morning or after you haven't ridden it for a while, the ABS warning lights will flash. This is reportedly caused by the ABS computer seeing too low of a voltage from the battery. It's possible to fix this problem, but since it's really just an occasional annoyance, I never bothered. The only reason I'm selling it is because I've got too many vehicles and just don't ride it enough to justify keeping it. For the full "Buy It Now" price, I will also throw in an all weather BMW motorcycle cover, a Battery Tender (for keeping the battery charged during storage), and a TwinMax gauge for synchronizing the throttle bodies. One last thing... I don't need to sell this bike and I have no intention of giving it away. I have quite a bit more in this bike than what I'm asking and I think the price is fair. I will mark the price down one more time (to $3500) if the bike doesn't sell by the end of 2 weeks. That is my bottom dollar, and at that price, the extras won't be included. So, if you're really interested, I would encourage you to act sooner rather than later.
