Vehicle Detail
This is probably the nicest original un-restored 1971 Mercury Cyclone GT you will ever find! With only 38,800 original miles, this car still runs and drives like new! Most everything is original including the interior which is all original, original carpet, seats, dash pad, steering wheel, you name it, this interior is like new and un-restored. Outside, this Cyclone still wears most of its original paint, although it appears that the lower black paint has been repainted. Since most of the paint is original, there are a few door dings here and there and a few other minor flaws in the paint, but as you can see in the photos, it is overall, very presentable. There is a small dent under the rear spoiler, but not too objectionable. The vinyl roof is original and perfect. All chrome and trim is very nice. When I purchased the car, it was showing its age under the hood and the transmission was leaking from the old seals. I wanted it all cleaned up so I pulled the engine and transmission, and had the transmission professionally rebuilt. As long as the engine was out, I personally rebuilt it also. Everything is as new. The engine showed very little wear at all, but to make it perfect, it was bored the minimum of .020. The crank was perfect so it was just polished. Everything is as new, right back to factory specs. The carburetor was restored by Pony Carbs. All hoses are new, as is the water pump, radiator and heater core. In other words, this car is ready to go, it needs nothing, and you can get in it and drive anywhere. You may notice that there is some rust proofing still on the inner fenders. I left it there as I have documentation showing that this car was Ziebarted by the original selling dealer when the car was brand new. It is probably one of the reasons that there is no rust on this car. Everything works great on this car. All gauges work just as they should. The radio works as does the original rim blow horn. The steering wheel is un-restored and in excellent condition. All doors and windows fit and work like new. Even the hideaway headlamps operate perfectly and stay closed when they should. In addition to all of the Cyclone GT standard features, this car is equipped with the optional Houndstooth Interior Trim, Vinyl Roof, Power Steering, Power Front Disc Brakes and AM Radio. The engine is the standard 351 Cleveland 2 Barrel V8 with SelectShift Cruise-O-Matic Transmission. I have included a scan of the window label, and it is the original window label that came on the car new, not a reproduction You can buy a restorable Cyclone and easily spend $50,000 or much more restoring it and still not have nearly as good of a car as a solid low mileage original. If you are looking for a good solid Mercury Cyclone GT, this is the one. It is ready to get in and drive anywhere. This is a very nice car and you will not be disappointed. As with most any classic car, I am selling it as-is without warranty, however, you are welcome to come inspect it at any time. The title is clear and there are no title issues. Buyer is responsible for delivery. Fell free to call 605-999-8489 with any questions.
