Vehicle Detail
Luxury at a Low Price Drive this beautiful Chrysler on the Avenue next Easter, or any other time. This 1984 Chrysler Fifth Avenue was owned by a company that I worked for and which I drove on the job. I was in a significant road accident in 2001, (not in this car) and was unable to continue working. The licence plate was not renewed after that year and the car just sat in their garage until 2006, when they offered the car to me. I took it and shortly after took it in to a local garage to have the brakes completely done. This cost close to a thousand dollars. Unfortunately, the car has been sitting at the back of my rear lot since then and, other than having the engine started and run up once in a while, it has not been used. Now, the calipers on the front disk brakes are partially seized and will have to be lubricated and freed up or, in the worst case, replaced. However, the car is movable and I have driven it around the back lot and up on to my driveway. There are numerous garages in the vicinity, if required, to work on the calipers. The engine is a 5.1 Litre (318 Cubic Inch) V-8.which still starts up nicely. However, the carburetor probably needs a rebuild as it is feeding a very rich mixture to the engine. Also, the exhaust is a bit noisy indicating a leak either in the muffler or one of the pipes. Since the car is not currently insured or licensed, I cannot drive it to a garage to check it out and I am unable to get under the car on my driveway to have a look see. The body overall is good although there is some surface rust here and there. The left lower corner of the trunk lid is rusted and needs to be repaired and there is some rust at the bottom of the doors and fenders. However, very little considering the age of the vehicle. What it needs is to have all the required body work completed and then to be given a new paint job. All lights, including the Direction Signals are working properly. The Power Windows all work with the exception of the passenger side rear door. However, the motor seems OK because the window does start to move down before it hangs up. It is probable that the regulator needs lubricating. The Split-Power Seat on the Driver’s side tilts and moves up and down, but will not move forward or back. The tracks probably just need to be oiled. It comes with the standard AM/FM Stereo Cassette Sound System. The Odometer is showing 26,958 Kilometers, although the actual distance it has gone is about 126,958 Km. The interior is in matching blue plush and is in overall good condition apart from some small cigarette burns. The car comes with four excellent, virtually new, BF Goodrich P225/70R15 Whitewall Tires one of which is flat because of rust between the rim and tire bead. It is in the trunk. That is easily fixable. The spare, currently on the right front wheel, is a 205/75R15. Also, the four wheel covers are included with the car although they are not mounted on the wheels at this time. There is some issue with the locking adapters but, again, this should be a somewhat simple fix. I used to enjoy driving this luxury car and hate to see it go but my circumstances are changing and I can no longer afford to insure and maintain a whole bunch of cars. I am currently selling two of the five cars I own. I really hope it can find a new owner who can do what is required to give the Fifth Avenue a new lease on life. With the required body work and a fresh paint job, this Classic luxury car can once again be a Belle of the Ball. My starting price will be only $250.00 but it goes without saying that the car is worth much more than this even if only bought as a parts car. The tires alone are worth more than that. But please note! Because of the age of the car and the fact that it has been sitting for so long, I cannot guarantee the condition of the frame. All I can assure prospective buyers is that it runs well except for the deficiencies outlined above. Pickup or delivery will be the responsibility solely of the successful bidder. The car is driveable except for the sticking brake calipers as mentioned above. After the brakes had been done originally, the car was driven here with no problem but it has been sitting for about three years now. The car is currently located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, which is just to the West of Toronto. It is in close proximity to a number of north-south and east-west highways and is within about 60 miles of the United States border at Lewiston, Niagara Falls or Buffalo, New York. Although I believe that this car can be easily put into service, I cannot give any kind of warranty or guarantee. It is sold strictly "as is."
