Vehicle Detail
1968 Ford Torino GT 289ci Auto Survivor Excellent restoration candidate or just drive and enjoy!!! Here we have a true original GT car. The car is black on black with bucket seats Factory A\C ( currently not working but compressor, vac valves, ect still on car ) Essentially Rust Free For It's Age Valid PA State Inspection I'll go through the list of everything I know about this car It is an orginal GT car that has been used as a toy for me the last few years since I've owned it. It gets waves and comments whenever I take it for a ride which I do fairly often. This car will start right up and take you where you want to go without complaining. I would not be afraid to drive it anywhere. I have even put it in some local shows just for kicks. It still possesses what is believed to be the original 289 and automatic transmission ( C4). BODY: As was mentioned there is almost no rust to speak of. Trunk, floor pans, ect. are solid as are inner and outer quarter panels The car was repainted somewhere along the line before I got it. The paint is decent and shines well but it is not show quality. There are some dings and a few ripples here and there but from about 10 feet away it looks incredible. There are a couple of dings in the stainless trim but with the exception of the one eyebrow they could easily be straightened. One chrome beauty ring is dented. GT center caps are decent. Paint on them is faded. The hood looks as though it was allowed to be bent back too far at some point. It was straightened as best they could and has some putty. Unless you know what you are looking for here you can't really see it. The underside of the hood as little rust spots from what Im not really sure. I will throw in a good straight used hood for anyone that hits the buy it now button. Weatherstripping all needs replaced as it is the original. All of it is available reproduction now for a reasonable price. I didn't worry about this because the car is garaged all the time when not being driven on nice days. All lights work and factory GT emblems are intact. Trunk looks to have original spare tire and trunk mats. Interior: All seats and seat belts are in car and in working order. Carpet has some fading however has no tears or any spots that are worn through. Headliner is peeling some where it meets the back window. I did mention the weatherstrip needed replaced and I believe this is why the headliner is pulling there as water got in from the car wash. Package tray in rear is not cracked up but could use a better paint job. Front drivers seat has small tear in seat back. Dash is nice for the age and all gauges work with the exception of the factory clock. The switch that turns on the A\C is missing. It has been that way since I bought the car. Even though I am certified for A\C systems I never looked into it because I always drive it around with the windows down anyway. Speaking of which all windows go up and down as they should and door latches and locks all work properly using only 2 keys like it should be. Even the glove box lock matches. The passenger side door window is missing the extension piece with the seal. Windshield has what looks like a repaired stone chip. This is small and passes PA state inspection requirements. Radio does not work as there are no speakers currently in the car. Mechanical: Original 289 runs well. Could use a good tune up.The oil dipstick tube is broken off which it was when i got it. It will stay put though and you can still check the oil no problem. There is a new chrome tube for this in the trunk that I bought but never bothered to put in. The C4 trans was rebuilt with a good shift kit. It will chirp 2nd gear if you jump on it a little. Original 8in rear still intact. Emergency brake works properly and car will stop well considering the nature of 4 wheel drum brakes. I just had the rear brakes completely rebuilt with new hose, shoes, wheel cylinders. Front suspension is tight for a 40 year old car. Exhaust in good condition with new muffler and tailpipe. The aftermarket muffler makes it sound mean although it's still just a factory 289 lol. I try to be as up front and honest as possible. If there is anything wrong that is not included in this description it's simply because it slipped my mind. If you have any questions please ask. If you need a parts car this is NOT what you want. this car is a good survivor that is looking for a new owner to appreciate it. One last note: this is not a show car so do not expect it to be. You are encouraged to look at the car and or drive the car before you buy it. if you chose not to that is on you.
