This is a 1934 Desoto SE AirFlow 6 cylinder with the 100hp factory aluminum head and floor mounted 3 speed with freewheeling option. This airflow was just recently found in a garage and had been sitting for 35 years. We brought the Airflow home and within a couple of days got it running. We changed the oil, cleaned the fuel system, and it started right up! We checked the compression, and it is good. We rebuilt the master brake cylinder and bled the brakes, they work but still have some leaks. We were able to drive the car around the block a few times to check it out, the transmission and rear end sounded and felt good. The AirFlow is completely stock with the original paint, upholstery. As they say they are only original once! The grill is excellent, the body is rust free with only a little bit of surface rust. The frame looks excellent, and the floor is made of wood, which doesn’t even look that bad. The front end sheet metal needs some minor bodywork, but all is very repairable. As you can see in the picture, the top vinyl inset is gone and would need to be replaced. All the wood is good, and all the interior moldings are there. The running boards are pretty nice and very useable, as are the cool looking art deco fender skirts. All the hubcaps are there, the spare tire cover is original though the spare is missing its original hubcap. All the chrome is present, and in fair to good shape. The rear taillight assembly is there, but the lights are not working at this time. The AirFlow still has the old tires that were new when it was driven into the garage, and they all still hold air. This car is 99% complete, it is missing a right front lower inner panel and one bumper guard. The dash looks excellent with the original gauges that are in perfect shape. The speedo still works. Also included is the factory style radio. One front window roller is broken, the front windows with the roll-down vents all work, the steering wheel, button and horn all work and are in excellent condition. The muffler is bad, just out of warranty! Production of these 1934 DeSotos started in January, with the serial # 5068501, and the ID number on this car is 5069276, so you can tell this is a very early model number! This car shows 41,000 miles on the odometer, and I believe it to be accurate because, it all feels really tight, and not worn out. For a 1934 car, she starts up very easily and sounds good. This old Desoto has quite a look to it, it looks good as it is, but would also make a great candidate for a restoration project. To make this a daily driver, you will need to do more brake work, new tires, new hoses and belts. The radiator looks excellent, but would need to be checked out. These cars are very rare, and were before their time. They made five different models in 1934. They made only about 2800 of these models, and probably only about 10% exist, meaning this is one of about 250 cars at the most!
