Vehicle Detail
I am listing my 1978 Fiat 124 CS1 Spider for sale due to recently becoming disabled. This vehicle is in very good ORIGINAL condition. I purchased the car three years ago through a broker who found a one family car (two prior owners in the same Marin County California family). I drove it back from California with no issues and it did not use even a quart of oil. It has been completely trouble free during my ownership. The only changes I made were to update the original 1978 radio (receipt included). I have every piece of service history and this reflects the current odometer reading of 124,500 as actual. Included are the original window sticker and as much research printouts as you can find on the Internet. Also included is a custom fit car cover and an extra set of period correct wheel covers. The car is in need of a paint job. While the original paint is presentable, it is getting thin in places. The front fender on the drivers side does have a chip missing with a small area of blue paint showing. I do not know how this happened but it is apparant it happened many years ago. There is a very small spot of surface rust approximately 2"x3" on the passenger side rocker panel. This is surface rust and has not gone completely through the metal. This is the ONLY rust I have seen on the car. The body structure has no evidence of any rust and this does include the floorboards. This car is 99.5% rust free and has only been driven in the rain during my trip back from California. There were no leaks from the nearly new tan canvas top. The top dash has the normal Fiat dash cracks near the defroster outlets. The engine runs smooth even with Sta-bil treated gas from last fall. As stated before, it does not use any oil and there are no leaks. The differential does have a smal leak, leaving a quarter size spot on the floor of my heated garage after the past nine months it has been in storage (I took it out today (5/30/10) for the first time since becoming disabled in August of last year). I had the differential oil changed before I drove it back along with an exchange of all fluids including transmission and had the spark plugs replaced. The car started after pumping the gas ten or so times. It is in a very good state of tune. Everything on the car works. It has the original tool kit that appears to never have been removed from the trunk area. It does have the California emissions package including the catalytic converter and AIR pump. It passed emissions testing in California the last time it was registered there. I have had people contact me wanting to purchase just the emissions equipment from me for more than what my reserve is set at!. The bumpers are presentable, but the plating is coming loose on the rear of the bumper tubes. For some reason the car has a black boot cover for the top with a tear over the drivers side front latch. I do not know if all cars came with black boots or if the original was lost and replaced with a black cover. This car runs out nice, shifting like new through all the gears. This is a very solid car in need of a paint job. All the panels are straight and will be easy to prep. I would like pictures from the buyer if they decide to paint it. My very first car was a CS1 Spider and I purchased this car to relive my youth (I'm 46!). Unfortunately I now need to part with it. Please contact me with any questions.
