_____________________________________________ .............. 1966 Land Rover ‘88’ - Series IIa - Utility Body .............. .......... VIN #244194958 ......... .... Manufactured by: The Rover Company, Ltd. - Warwickshire, Solihull, England - 1966 .... ....... Body 88" 2-door utility style with rear jump seat ....... .... Odometer is working - reads just 50,196 actual (only 1,140 miles per year on average) .... Color / Exterior: Green/Cream Color / Interior: Green with brown vinyl seats and door panels ....... _____________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Thoughts of a classic Land Rover Series IIa ... jungle safaris, the Sahara, deep woods, bold adventure ... The quisentential mode of transport for the intrepid man ... and his gear. In storage for several years and none of the family having the time for anymore fun with it ... it need to find a new home and someone that will cherish it once again. In short, it needs to go. Thus the very reasonable ‘Buy-it-Now" price. Through the following photos and brief descriptions I’ll attempt to show you what there is to know about this vehicle. First off, this is not a running and hasn’t run in the past couple of years. It ran when parked and should have the gas tank flushed and the carb cleaned before attempting to start. Needless to say, the battery is also dead. This won’t be a hard project for one that’s even slightly handy. A little time and a little effort ... should be well worth the expenditure of both. With some time, money and effort, this could look ... ... like this. Restored examples of this classic now sell in the high $20,000 range ... so you’ll find this one priced right. This vehicle has many of the desirable Land Rover factory options ... a double layer ‘Safari’ roof with 4 pass-through vents to help keep cool, ‘Alpine’ windows for added light, spare tire brackets both front and rear, a ‘Warn’ winch to get you unstuck from just about anything, high output heater to help keep you toasty warm. Add a pick and shovel, high water snorkel, high lift jack, etc., and you should be unstoppable. Land Rover legend has it that intrepid travelers would remove the grill and use it for Bar-B-Ques. The double layer ‘Safari’ roof is aluminum as is the rest of the body ... paint chipping but no rust. Notice the four pass through vents for added cooling. The interior is as one would expect to find it on a classic Land Rover ... simple and straightforward. The passenger's side windshield is cracked ... a simple and inexpensive repair as its flat glass. Here’s a photo of a restored interior ... shouldn’t be much work to achieve this. The seats are heavy duty vinyl and wears like elephant hide. Note: Pass-through vents and folding windshield. Only 50,196 actual miles (just 1,140 miles per year on average) High and Low Range instructions. The red thing hanging on the left is the battery isolator for the dual batteries. It just needs to be screwed to the fire wall again. Spacious rear cargo area with optional jump seat. Vinyl roof with optional pass-through vents. The engine will need serviced and the fuel system cleaned before starting. When detailed, it could look like this restored example. The powerful ‘Warn’ winch with galvanized cable is show here. All five tires are in very poor condition and will need replaced. Several photos of the frame follow. The frame is in overall good condition with the exception of the rear 6" will need to have an extension welded on (just to the rear of the leaf spring mounts ... no rocket science here. Rear frame shown in this and the following photo. Optional rear spare tire bracket. Note: Rear lower valance panel has rust and will need to have some replacement steel welded on. That’s it for photos ... what you see is what you get. Not a hard restoration if you care to do it, if not, simply add tires, service engine and start and drive and restore it.
