Vehicle Detail
This 1961 Karmann Ghia convertible is a solid running and driving car that would be a great restoration candidate. It was in storage for the past couple of years -- I pulled it out of the garage, drained the tank, put in fresh fuel and it started right up. This would be an excellent car to restore or it could be a “rat rod” daily driver with a little work. I have too many projects and just don’t have the time to do them all, so this one needs a new home. MECHANICAL: The engine runs well. The motor number is AE266257 so I think it is a 1600 motor from a 1971 or 1972 Ghia. The brakes, clutch and transmission are also in good working order. The parking brake is good. I drove it 15 miles yesterday and it seems fine except that it stalled once while the engine was still cool. The steering and suspension feel excellent. However, I do not recommend driving it a long distance without first giving everything a good going over. MILEAGE / TIRES: The odometer reads 50,435 miles but I don’t have any way of knowing the true mileage (it is mileage-exempt because of its age.) It has radial tires that look like they are nearly new. BODY / FLOORS / PAINT: This car is very solid for being 50 years old. The floors don’t have any rust holes. It looks like the rear pans were replaced at some point with correct replacement panels. I don’t see any rust holes in the body but there is a little bubbling on the lower rockers. The hood fit is a little off -- it looks like it should be a relatively easy adjustment. The paint looks to be very old and it has black pinstripes. You will see in the pictures that there are some holes drilled in the underside of the nose -- I think this car once had an A/C unit installed and those holes were drilled to increase air flow over the coils. The bumpers and trim pieces are all there, but they will need rechroming. I think this car was originally white. TOP / INTERIOR: The interior is not in the correct patterns and looks like it was redone many years ago. The convertible top is functional but should be restored. The pictures tell the story. GAUGES / ELECTRICAL: The speedometer, gas gauge and tail lights work. The wipers, radio and other lights don’t work. I have not checked any fuses or wires so I’m not sure what repairs are needed. THIS CAR IS BEING SOLD AS-IS, WHERE-IS, WITH NO WARRANTY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. I have tried to describe it very accurately and I posted lots of pictures. I took all of the pictures yesterday so they are current and accurate. If you are unsure about bidding please come inspect and test drive it first. Remember that by being the winning bidder you will have entered into a contract to complete the purchase in accordance with eBay rules. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have - just email me or call me at 352-283-0268. DEPOSIT / PAYMENT / LEGAL: A $200 non-refundable PayPal deposit is due within 24 hours of the end of the auction. The balance must be paid by cash, cashier’s check, or wire transfer within seven days of the end of the auction. Any cashier’s checks must clear my bank before the car can be released. If the winning bidder fails to pay in accordance with these requirements, I may, at my option, make second-chance offers or re-list/remarket the car and the deposit will be forfeited by the bidder. If you receive a second-chance offer, please log into your eBay account separately and reply ONLY DIRECTLY THROUGH THE EBAY SITE (never try to accept a second-chance offer by clicking on something in an email or replying to an email because it may not be legitimate.) The sale location is Bell, Florida; Florida law governs; and venue lies exclusively in Gilchrist County, Florida. SHIPPING / PAPERWORK / SALES TAX: Arranging and paying for shipping / pick-up is the responsibility of the winning bidder. I am a long-time classic car enthusiast and a licensed automobile dealer (my company is Classic Investment Motorcars Inc.) This means that we have to complete the standard sales forms, and if you are in Florida I will need to collect applicable sales tax and tag/title fees. If the car is shipped out of Florida by common carrier I won’t need to collect the sales tax (you will take care of that where you live.) I do not charge any dealer fees, processing fees or other junk add-on fees. Please feel free to email me or call me if you have any questions. My number is 352-283-0268.
