Vehicle Detail
1983 Mercedes Turbo Diesel. Clean, runs fine, tires about 60% tread left. The car is in original condition, no biodiesel mods. We have been running Blue Ridge Biodiesel. The Good: Starts well, runs down the highway very smoothly. Trans shifts a bit abruptly - but I think they all do. Battery is one year old. Turbo was replaced last year. Both rear axle shaft/CV joints were replaced and diff serviced with synthetic lube. Front cushion joint, carrier bearing and u-joints were replaced. Factory block heater. Vacuum locks work fine. Windows all roll up and down. Body is in good shape. If you are looking for a Mercedes to restore, or just a coat of fresh paint as a daily driver this car would be great. The not so good: These cars are not known for powerful acceleration and this one is no exception. Body is in good shape no significant dents with what appears to be the original paint. Interior is in OK condition, passenger front seat has some odd rough spot as can be seen in the photos. Sunroof opens but has trouble closing. Radio didn't work when I got it, and I have never gotten around to fixing it ( was told the fuse when I bought it. ). A/C is/was very frigid, but the blower motor stopped working this winter. These cars are known to run 500K+ miles but have a few quirks, cruise controls usually don't work, and the odometer gears wear out. True mileage is unknown. Selling because it's a thrid car, and we just don't drive it enough. Experian reports an issue on the title. I was told when I bought it that it had been stolen and recovered in California years ago. Looks like Experian reports it had a California salvage title after it's recovery in 1995. The car has current plates and a clear North Carolina (not salvage) title. I guess when insurance pays out on a claim they flag the title, probably doesn't affect the value of a 27 year old car.
