Vehicle Detail
1987 Toyota 4Runner / Hilux Surf Turbo Diesel. There are very few of these in the country. Everything is factory Toyota, and a clean example of a vehicle offered almost everywhere else in the world, but rare & highly sought after in North America. The vehicle was always kept in good condition and a clean non-wrecked California body. The title is clean, and now 100% legally registered as a diesel. So this now subjects it to smog emissions. (Some states are exempt from smog tests.) Registered miles do not reflect actual miles of this truck, which now is more like an almost brand new vehicle. I really do not want to let this one go, but moving and won't have the space. Hours of research were put into this vehicle to make everything as correct as possible so everything is a true 4Runner diesel as offered by Toyota. The engine is the 2LTE with A343 automatic transmission, a great transmission for the engine, with 179,000 kilometers (107,000 miles)--minimal for a Toyota diesel. Complete drive train (engine, transmission, front & rear 4.88 differentials) and front wiring harness & instrument cluster (in kilometers) are from a very clean, low miles 1992 4Runner (Hilux Surf), the same class of engine offered in '87 as well, so still authentic to the year, but in much newer condition. It runs & shifts beautifully. In addition, most if not all moving parts on the body were replaced. The push button auto-locking 4x4 works perfectly, and the rear differential gears are brand new. In fact, most everything on this truck is brand new. New timing belt, tensioners, and water pump, engine mounts, temperature gauge, air filter, axle bearings, newer control arms/ball joints. All fluids & gaskets replaced, new oil filter. New rear main seal, no leaks whatsoever. New 2.5" exhaust & muffler. Interior, including the carpet, is completely brand new with various trim replaced with parts from a clean low miles (~50k) 4Runner. The seats, door panels & rear headliner are new genuine Toyota SR5 material from '87. Everyone comments that it smells brand new & just off the dealer lot. The heater blows hot, A/C blows ice cold, and many components there are brand new as well. New tint, stereo/speakers, 2-stage paint in original Toyota color, and '87 decals. Basically the vehicle is reconditioned from the ground up, and is a blast to drive in any condition, whether commuting, off-roading, camping, or hauling, and turns heads. The engine is great to drive, and it is just as quick as the gas versions. It was leak down tested with no leaks found at all. Turbo is in great shape. It is a pristine example of the engine. The mpg's are better than the 22-RE's. Some have been reporting as much as 30 mpg or more on the highway. And there's some fun things that can be done to increase that, like an intercooler, manual hubs, slightly larger tires, and possibly changing to a manual transmission. But I've enjoyed it in it's factory condition. This is all I can think of right now, but feel free to ask. Thanks for looking, and good luck. On May-24-10 at 08:16:04 PDT, seller added the following information: After some questions, I should mention...everything on the car works. I would feel comfortable driving it anywhere. On May-24-10 at 10:05:41 PDT, seller added the following information: Also forgot to mention that the front disc brakes, calipers, master cylinder, booster are all 1992 4Runner. This is a popular upgrade that definitely helps its stopping power. Definitely more response and shorter stopping distance. On May-26-10 at 14:46:44 PDT, seller added the following information: People have asked about options: Power steering, tilt, altimeter/ clinometers, AC/heat, rear power window, side steps, rear grab handles, tint, Stereo (AM/FM/CD/ipod connection --I'm pretty sure at least), push button auto-locking 4wd, carpet (as opposed to vinyl), SR5 sport seats w/lumbar, SR5 cloth interior (as opposed to vinyl), 16" wheels. These are items listed on the '87 4Runner options list. On May-27-10 at 14:59:41 PDT, seller added the following information: Realized I forgot to mention I'm getting mid 20's in the city which is all I've driven it. I haven't taken it on a long drive to test the hwy mpg's.
