Vehicle Detail
Here is really good antique car from a new client (elderly friend) interested in selling one of her deceased husband’s interests. This model antique car is one you don’t see very often, especially in restorable shape! This is an original 1936 Chevrolet Standard 6 cylinder Sedan. What makes it unique is that this is a one family owned car as it came down through my client’s deceased husband’s side of the family with it being purchased new in 1936 by his grandfather for $425. It has been garaged since new and stored since the owner’s passing some 20 years ago. Car is complete and is really a barn find or time capsule. I found the original license plate from 1936 under the seat and it is included with the car. Car is currently light blue in color, but the blue was painted on by the owner (looks like it may have been the old time brush/roller paint of years and years ago) to change it from what was probably a black car. Blue paint is thin, flaking off in spots, light rust (surface only) in some areas, and cleaned up but would work for driving, not for showing. What is unique is that the body is fantastic, no rust through (other than a couple of holes on the driver’s running board), few if any dings or dents, and the car is very nice and solid. Interior is the original brown mohair, interior is there, but damaged in parts, holes in some, some mice damage, and mohair is stiff in some areas. Car has the original straight 6 cylinder 216 motor with 3 speed on the floor (shifter ball is laying on the seat). Motor has not been tried, but I do know that a number of local folks have tried to buy this car from the garage through the years and a couple of them had fired it up using a can of gas and a battery and it did fire and run. I will not warrant the motor as running or able to run (since I have not personally tried it or heard it), but I think with some work it should come alive (these are pretty hardy motors), it was in a nice garage since 36 when first purchased, and was still housed there up until about 2 days ago when I pulled it out for the first time for the client.***** CONDITION: As a power-seller, I want to be factual about the car. Original mileage is 57,533 on the odometer, tires were new some 20 years ago (when her husband died) and saw little miles when they were installed (5.25-5.5-17 inch no brand black walls, spare is used Firestone). Wheels are original artillery with original hubcaps, hubcaps were in trunk; I installed them. Brakes are unknown, but car rolls freely without noise etc…Plate above the motor on firewall reads: Style #36-1219-2, Body # 5 4287, Trim #: 50 and Paint # 202. Plate on passenger floor near battery access says: Standard model and car #: 3FC05 50979. Original keys are in ignition, gauges are very nice, car has a heater under passenger dash, has horn above engine; driver’s side, single taillight, has spare tire and I only saw a jack handle. Parts inside were a shifter knob, some kind of chrome bracket, and a mirror head. Glass is delaminating throughout but workable, driver’s window is missing but regulator mechanism is there in door and works fine, driver’s rear passenger side glass is cracked but there, there is no battery with the car, engine has oil and antifreeze in it, passenger front door closes but needs adjustment to have a tighter seal, glovebox is missing the lock, there is no owner’s manual or paperwork, and front lights have original bulbs not replacement beams. No attempt here has been made to start it, to turn it, or to electrify it. Assume nonworking, but I think you will see it come alive and with some work, be fine to drive and restore or to use or to show. Just another great eBay deal!***** TITLE: This car has no title as the owner could not locate it since her husband’s death years back. We will give a bill of sale on the car and we can provide a death certificate through my client’s attorney if needed (no cost). Here in Illinois, a replacement title can be obtained by the buyer using an appraisal, purchasing a bond, and including a bill of sale at the time of applying for title. Such expenses here or in another state are the responsibility of the buyer as is the pickup and transportation of this car. Selling as is and without warranty given age and condition as described. QUESTIONS: If questions or discussion on the car, please contact Dr. Brian at 815-351-7445 home or use the email link above and to the right in this ad that mentions “ask seller a question”.
