The Ferrari 412 replaced the Ferrari 400i and is the most evolved of the Pininfarina designed 2+2 series that began in 1973 with the 365 GT4 2+2. Engine size was increased to almost 5 liters, putting out 340 horsepower, resulting in 0 to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds, a standing quarter mile in 14.6 seconds, and a top speed of 155 mph. Cosmetic improvements included bumpers that are color-matched to the body paint, and a raised rear deck. Only 576 412's were built from 1985 to 1989, giving this sleek Ferrari potential as a future classic. However, most 412's, as with the preceding 400 and 400i series, were equipped with automatic transmissions. This 412 is highly desirable because it was factory built with a 5 speed transmission. These rare 5 speed examples sell for quite a premium over the automatic versions, as most collectors believe a true classic front engine V-12 Ferrari must have a clutch! Plus they are much more fun to drive than the automatic version. This car offers the rare and beautiful color combination of a black exterior with light gray leather and black carpets, dash and center console. It is fully loaded and has every option, including a factory built 28 gallon gas tank, Sony remote 10 CD player, self-adjusting suspension, etc. The body is straight and rust free. The black metallic (Nero Met, 901/C) paint is very nice, although there are the typical few very small imperfections The interior is clean and in very nice condition throughout. Mechanically the car is in very good condition. It starts right up, even after sitting for a while. The motor is strong, it shifts easily, it runs and drives as if new, and all components work well, including the A/C, gauges, seats, power windows, locks, etc. The rear suspension load leveling system works, which is important with these cars. The tires only have 6,000 miles since new, and the spare is new. The car is California legal, which is rare and desirable if you live here. It has been serviced and maintained per Ferrari specs for the last 10 years by the same shop. The owners manual and all service records since the car was imported are included. In my experience it is highly unusual to have such an extensive and documented service history with this type of car, which I consider a huge plus. The original jack & tool kit are also included.
