Vehicle Detail
I am a mechanic who has worked on this vehicle for several years. The owner was in his 90's and this was his secondary car. He purchased it new in 1976 and has receipts for all the work ever done to it. He decided since he could no longer drive it he would sell it. He offered to me and I thought it was a very good project car. I replaced the rear brakes with all new components (wheel cylinders, drums, shoes, springs and adjusters). I replaced all the shocks with coil over shocks to improve the ride control of this heavy car. All the tires are in great shape. The a/c was converted to 134a in 2003 and still blows very cold. The power windows and seats work. The seats are in great shape (hardly any wear, I don't think they ever sat anyone in the back). The dash and door panels need attention. The frame and suspension is solid. The body does have some rust. It had a vinyl top and it rusted underneath. That was only surface rust but around the back corner window there is rust all the way through. Despite the rust I've had it looked at by a body shop and they said it was very repairable and worth fixing. The only mechanical problem with the car is the heater core which is by-passed because it hasd a small leak (fogged the windows in the winter). The body fillers between the rear of the car and the bumper are gone. They are originally plastic and have deteriorated. I have seen replacement ones here on e-bay several times some made of plastic others of fiberglass. There are a total of five pieces that go there. I love driving this car especially in the summer with all the windows down. I once fit 8 adults in it for a ride and they fit comfortably. Why am I selling it now? Well I bought it I was single and had money and time. Now I have a 14 month old baby and am getting married. If I had a garage to keep it in I would not sell but I don't want the car to waste away. It has been under a shelter since I owned it and it has a car cover that will come with it. I also have the new heater core but haven't had time to install it yet. This is the last year of the 455 and that engine is getting rarer to find as the years go by. Feel free to ask any questions.
