Vehicle Detail
1973 Land Rover Military Lightweight Airportable Series lll Used by the British military untill the early 1980's, this Series 3 Land Rover Lightweight (also known as airportable) was designed to serve the role as an overland scout , reconnasiance and patrol vehicle. This Lightweight is an extremely original version with heavy-duty leaf springs, military 24 volt electrical system, canvas top and military tires. It is in good condition, with recent tune up (new points, plugs, oil & filter change). It has recently passed full New Jersey motor vehicle inspection. Please refer to the photographs for detailed images. The vehicle has 91340 Kilometers on the Odometer, which at 0.62137 Miles to a Kilometer translates to 56,756 Miles. Comes with Users Maintanance Manual, Military rear work light, original shovel, spare 24v bulbs, an extra Military tire, penthouse light, military fire entinguisher holder, jump seat in the rear, original US import documentation (2004), Hi-lift jack, wiring diagrams and some other stuff I'll through in. The paint finish is typical military and has some light scratches from brush, which I think adds character to her. Canvas top is original and keeps out water. Rear cross member has some rust (see photo), I'd replace it sometime (Rovers North has them last I checked). Gas gauge does not work - its a fix I never got around to. The rear trailer hitch is home-made, if you are going to tow anything you should replace it. Passenger mirror has a crack but is hardly noticable. She rides nicely, steeres very well, and has never left me down. I've kept her in a garage, never had her over 55 MPH (about top speed anyway), and have been carefull to maintain her well. The doors can be removed and the windshield folded down for the ultimate summer ride. The body is made from aluminum, and the tires are original military. This is a great truck in original condition with right hand drive that is just a lot of fun to drive. By the way, I found that shifting with one's left hand is not hard at all. If you're not already familiar with Lightweights, be sure to research them - they are great. US PayPal bidders only please unless otherwise agreed upon. You or your Mechanic are most welcome to view and test the vehicle here in New Jersey, zip code 08833.
