Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a STUNNING 1965 Corvette convertible finished in white diamond pearl with black interior. It is powered by a 300 HP factory replacement block (N.O.M.). The motor is matted to a 4 speed manual Muncie transmission. It sits on 17 inch American Racing Rims wrapped in Nexen 245/45/17 high performance tires. It is equipped with a hardtop only. (Yes, believe it or not, you could order it from the factory that way.) The only other options are back-up lights, day/night mirror, and an AM/FM radio (no power steering or power brakes). It is also equipped with 4 wheel disc brakes. Now, more on this classic American Sports Car: BODY & PAINT – Absolutely gorgeous!! First, let me start by saying the pictures simply do not give the car the justice it deserves! This is a car you must see to appreciate!! The White Diamond paint is less than 2 years old and it sparkles! To achieve this, the car was completely stripped to bare fiber glass. A new gel coat was applied followed by primer, base coat, and many, many clear coats. You Corvette buffs know this is an expensive process. Although the finished product is quite spectacular, there are a few tiny flaws. Even so, you have to look very closely to find them. The doors, hood, and deck lid both line up, and open and close smoothly. The driver door sometimes sticks when opening from the inside. I believe the interior mechanism is to blame, but I never pursued it. The bumpers are in nice shape and shine brightly. I believe they are original and due to their age, have some pitting. The headlights work as designed. The right one lags on occasion. INTERIOR - The carpet, carpet pad, door sills, and door panels are all new. Each was professionally installed by Dickerson Upholstery of Rio Linda, CA less than a year ago. The dash pads appear to be factory originals and are free of any discoloration or cracks. The vinyl seat covers are in great shape. The seat belts look to be original. They do show some wear. The stainless steel trim pieces around the windshield are in excellent shape. However, the stainless steel trim pieces on the interior of the hardtop are in need of re-finishing as they show pitting throughout. Some of the weather stripping on the hard top also needs some attention. There are no sun visors. The instrument cluster, center console, and glove box door are all in very nice shape. All instruments work with the exception of the clock and fuel gauge. However, I have a new rebuild kit for the clock and a new reproduction fuel gauge. I will include both items in the sale. The heater and fan control work fine. The power antenna is inoperable. The motor works, but the mast will not extend or retract automatically. It does however, move manually by hand. The factory AM/FM radio works flawlessly. The windshield wipers work, but sometimes have a mind of their own. All of the lights work including the turn signals which cancel out after making a turn. CHASSIS - I believe the car was kept in California the last 35 years or so. (In fact, it still retains both of the blue and yellow California license plates.) Because of this, the entire frame is absolutely SOLID. I see NO signs of rust anywhere. Also, the “birdcage” is in excellent shape. As you can see from the pictures below, the undercarriage is in great shape. The spare tire tub is in place and in excellent shape. It contains what appears to be an original rim and a bias-ply tire. Both the American Racing Wheels and Nexen Tires are less than 2 years old. The tires have about 85% of the tread remaining. The wheels absolutely sparkle and are free of any “road rash”. DRIVETRAIN – As stated above, the car is powered by a 300 HP factory replacement block (N.O.M). The motor runs very strong. It starts quickly and runs smooth. It also sounds awesome!! A few months ago, the motor was removed and detailed. While out, all fluids were replaced as well as the belts, hoses, spark plugs, wires, rotor, cap, filters, and gaskets. The clutch disc, throw out, and pilot bearing were all inspected while the motor was out. They are all in great shape. The engine bay was also detailed while the motor was out. The Muncie 4-speed shifts flawlessly. The rear end was rebuilt about a year ago by Tom’s Auto Repair of Sacramento, CA. OVERALL - I can’t stress it enough - this classic Corvette is an absolute BLAST to drive!! It is surprisingly smooth, almost rattle-free, and drives straight as an arrow. The larger wheels and tires add incredible stability and handling over the original set up. The result is pure harmony! This car is a cruiser! I guarantee your weekends will never be the same! Email any questions you may have. Inspections are welcomed and encouraged. LASTLY, NO TRADE OFFERS, PLEASE!!
