Vehicle Detail
This 1960 Cadillac Biarritz Convertible is a barn find from Minnesota.Items with the car show it was in that area as early as 1978, possibly since new.Not run and stored since the 1990's, it was recently purchased from the Estate. I have owned one other of these rare cars (only 1285 made +/-) previously and could not believe how complete and authentic this car is. I have no doubt that the mileage indicated of 60K is correct. Car started up easily after purchase and engine is very quiet (except for bad mufflers)Jan 20th update--Both mufflers cut out and being replaced with proper Walkers and stub pipe. Rotten tail pipes being removed. Air Ride compressor is operational and car will rise (but does NOT sit at proper height nor is level). While Functional- -The air ride is marginal at best!!!!The factory air ride system is 100% complete with all leveling valves and lines.Jan 20th update- -To protect the air ride system in the short term I am installing 2" blocks under front air towers to isolate them. In the rear I am placing GM era air shocks to take pressure off the original pods. These modifications will allow the car to be transported and test driven at proper and even height. The air ride compressor is plugged to aviod bag rupture. Brakes would not pump up so booster has been removed and rebuilt with correct diaphragm. Factory Master Cylinder required sleeve and rebuild. Jan 18th update- - Rebuilt Booster and Master Re-installed and bled. Brake pedal firm with correct travel. Tri-Power and Air Cleaner are obviously original to car and the vacuum switches and all linkage are intact and functional. All "3" carbs are factory and have the original tags with correct numbers as pictured. As soon as the car is up on the rack I will confirm it is Numbers Matching which I have NO doubt of. (Cadillac did stamp blocks with VIN # just above oil pan on block side)Jan 17th Update, Car IS Numbers Matching- -see last photo for block stamping that does match VIN plate. Also, the transmission is within 1,000 numbers of the VIN on the ID Plate. The optional Kelsey Hayes (Sabre) die cast wheels are surprisingly good with NO curb damage- -but all 5ea wheels do have expected pitting which I would call typical.Jan 18th Update, I am told these Sabre wheels are actually earlier Cadillac than the car- -but still very desirable. Wheel cap centers are correct for 60- -but different size than the normal cap centers- -possibly special Dealer order?? Trim on the car, especially the unique Biarritz full length body side moldings are exceptional and complete. Both Fender Skirts are intact and decent complete. Paint appears to have been done in the 70's or 80's and according to a note on the manual is correct Dupont Acrylic Lucite "Olympic White". This is correct for the body tag paint code #12. The car has NOT been buffed or touched up for the photos- -just washed. Front Bumpers are thin in the bottom and have some rust thru as expected for the region. However, the underside of the car is much cleaner than expected at the rear. Factory Undercoat Present. Trunk floor is also very good. Front body mount brackets still retain factory black with minimal pitting.Jan 17th update. Unseen previously, beside the mufflers there IS sill and rib rot in the first 2ea cross underbody supports. Floor pans overall are decent with 4-5 small-silver dollar, rust thru areas. Photos supplied on request. Interior original Red leather is cracked as expected and has only been wiped down- -but NO splits or holes. Carpets are intact with some dry rot and thin spots- -but are original. Seats do have the optional back pockets that were not standard. I will be pulling the pan on the tranny this week for signs of clutch pieces- -but so far there is NO indication that the turbo 4 speed has any issues.Jan 20th update. The Turbo pan was spotless and fluid bright red. No clutch material at all. NO burnt smell at all. There was NO indication pan had ever been off. Pan has drain plug and fluid must have been changed at some point. Top appears to be the original (yellowed) and back glass is intact- -but zipper is broken. Top motor works and top will go up and down. The optional fiberglass "Parade Boots" are overall very nice with only 1 crack that would be easily repaired. The original bag is present but is poor condition- -but good enough for an excellent pattern. Car does have the optional glove box actuated accessory trunk latch release. Trunk lining is completely original and complete with all shields in Fair condition overall. The latch cover is present but not attached. Car has 2 manuals, jacking instructions and a spec sheet. Original tire iron, spare cover/nut and 5th Kelsey spare wheel are present. Jack is missing. Windshield appears to be the OEM EZ Eye with NO chips or cracks or repairs visible. All 4 window motors operate, but the pass rear frame is broken. Pass front window is cracked. Jan 18th update. Water Pump is correct GM number and was evidently replaced early on as casting date is Nov of 1961. You can not ask for a more complete and un-messed with 60 Biarritz, especially that the air ride is still complete is very rare. -Original Eldorado letters are not installed on LF fender but are in glove box.-Generator has the cooling cone on the back- -but the shield and hose are missing.-All vacuum tanks are intact and will hold vacuum.-Cruise control has NOT been tested.-Clock is NOT operating.-Radio does NOT come on.-Drivers door wiring shield is missing.
