1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme/442 W-30 "Black Cherry" Convertible being sold at "No Reserve" This would make a great Christmas Present for that someone special in your life. If this were your Father's Oldsmobile then you had the cool Dad on the block back in the 1970's. If you don't get an adrenaline rush every time you fire a car up like this I'm afraid you'll have to see a doctor. 442 stands for 4-speed/4-barrel/Dual Exhaust! That variation switched around from year to year depending upon the year 442 model. Some 442's were ordered with an automatic. This very elegant looking Convertible was simply made to look like an awesome 442 W-30 specimen. The price of gas has fallen so now all the muscle cars can be driven daily without breaking the bank. Gas actually dropped under $2.00 this week in Kenosha. WoooWhoo!! This Classic Convertible is being offered on a quick 3-day auction, so get your bids in promptly. Opportunities like this don't come around very often. It is no great secret that the 1970 Cutlass Supreme/442 Convertible has more than doubled in price over the last decade. This is an extremely rare 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible that was ordered from the factory in the rare Dash Paint Code. I'm sure most 442 guys will tend to agree that you rarely see a 1970 Convertible with a dash paint code on the data plate. As shown in one of the pictures when there is a dash for the paint code there were four color options available in 1970. Nugget Gold, Sebring Yellow, Agean Aqua, or Rally Red. I believe this model had started life as the beautiful Agean Aqua, but the previous owner must have wanted the Black Cherry look. The current color on the car is believed to be code 78 Burgundy Mist. If I were keeping the car for myself I would refreshen the paint with Agean Aqua, but it can be driven and enjoyed with the current color. Apparently, the previous owner had restored this Olds back in the 1990's. He said he has owned the car since 1990 as verified by the clean and clear Wisconsin title that was issued on October 20th of 1990. The past owner said he had new genuine General Motors full quarter panels and new genuine GM fenders installed at the time of the restoration. The doors were in very good condition, so those did not need to be repaired or changed. The doors still open and close like back in 1970. This Antique Convertible was the prior owner's pride and joy for nearly the past three decades. Although he had only driven it less then 20,000 miles, and it sat in his garage the majority of his ownership. That's why the body has held up so well after all these years. He felt it was time for a new family to enjoy it. A true 442 Convertible in 1970 has a vin number that starts with 344 to prove it is a real 442. That is the way to verify these cars came from the factory ordered as a genuine 442 convertible in 1970. The vin number on this car starts with 342. 1970 has proven to be one of the most expensive and highly sought after years to acquire from the pinnacle of the muscle car era with the highest investment value. There plain and simply are not many left in existence. I will explain everything that I was told from the previous owner. This is the original numbers matching Rocket 350. Mostly everything under the hood is all original. Even the original control arm covers are still on the front inner fender wells along with the original heater tube attached to the original air cleaner. The dual scooped hood was the only add on addition, and is an awesome steel framed original Genuine GM W-25 ram-air hood that has the original screen on the underside of the hood with the chrome twistdowns to make absolutely certain that this ram-air hood will never fly up on the driver at high speeds. This convertible drives nice and straight down the road with finger tip control steered by the cool 442 4-spoke steering wheel. There is a newer master cylinder, so the power brakes stop this car well. There is a newer fuel pump and a newer water pump. There is also a newer radiator to keep this Olds running cool. All the correct Cutlass/442 W-30 decals were placed in the proper locations that came throughout these models from the factory before they hit the showroom floor back in 1970. This Rocket engine was never changed over to electronic ignition. It still has the original distributor and points set-up that starts this Rocket right up and runs and sounds great. There are newer dual exhaust with brand new chrome exhaust tips. The front and the rear bumpers are brand new correct 1970 aftermarket triple plated chrome replacements. The balance of the chrome is in driver's quality condition or better including all four wheel opening moldings. There is also a new gas tank with new gas tank straps as shown in a picture. The rear shocks and springs appear to be newer, so this convertible sits just right with the proud stance of what a 442 really looks like. The rear-end is believed to be the original 12-bolt, but I am unsure of the gear ratio. The paint work is in drivers quality condition that can make this droptop easily turn into the local favorite muscle car around town. There are several minor touch-ups on the paint here and there, but the body is very solid. There will be endless compliments coming to whoever is the lucky winner of this rare classic. The white W-30 stripes were an addition as they never came on a Cutlass Supreme model. The floors and frame are all solid. There was a professionally done repair to both sides of the undercarriage on the center section with a correct replacement brace. A picture was shown of one side of that repair. The carpeting looks like it was replaced at some point, because it's in very nice condition with a brand new set of four Deluxe Black carpeted floor mats. The front bench seat bottom was recently professionally reupholstered, so it should stay nice and comfortable for many years to come. These bench seat models have the cool center arm rest option. You can also pop the arm rest up and have your sweetie scooch over while you're driving like the good old days. In fact the entire interior looks in very nice condition. This makes a great car to take to the local drive-in movie theater with the whole family. The gas gauge works as it should. The dash board is in very nice shape with no cracking and an original AM radio is still in the dash. The radio will need to be hooked up, but at least this dash was never cut up like was typically done back in the day to fit aftermarket stereo's. This way if the new owner wants to install an upgraded factory AM/FM stereo that will be left up to the winning bidder. The dash even has the original chrome dash surround piece in place that outlines the length of the dash board. The convertible top is newer and in very good condition with no rips or tears, and does have the back glass window option. Spring is right around the corner just in time for top down cruising. The top works well through the switch on the dash and fits like a glove when it closes. The original California boot cover is included in the trunk. That boot can be placed over the top when the top goes down into the well. The top well liner and the top padding were all replaced at the time the top was changed several years back, so this top should stay nice for many years to come. This Cool Classic Convertible sits on a set of four B.F. Goodrich radial T/A P235/70R14 inch raised white lettered steel belted radial tires with nice tread mounted on 14" inch Super Stock II color coded wheels to match the body color. All four wheels have all four bolt-on center caps, all four beauty trim rings, and new chrome lug nuts. The trunk floor looks in nice shape which was coated with A/C Delco black and aqua spatter spray to have it appear like it came out of the factory. There is a brand new trunk mat on the trunk floor that has a nicely restored jack, jack stand, bumper mount that still has the original rubber on the mount, and the crow bar sitting on top of the new trunk mat. Also included in the trunk is a full size Super Stock II spare wheel. It is always nice to have the proper original equipment in case there is a mishap, so the car can be back on the road in minutes looking complete. This Oldsmobile Convertible came from the factory with power steering, power brakes, power top, tinted glass, chrome remote drivers side mirror, chrome door edge guards, Super Stock II wheels, 442 sport steering wheel, AM radio, and air conditioning. The factory ordered air conditioning option does not function at this time. The air compressor, condenser, and from what I can see all the proper a/c parts are still on the engine, but getting the a/c functioning will be left up to the new owner. There is no belt connected to the a/c compressor, but the other two belts are new. Many of these convertibles were not ordered with air conditioning back in those days, so that is always a nice option to have available on these classic muscle cars. The heater does work on all speeds and cranks out great heat. This Olds is being sold with a clean and clear title issued from the State of Wisconsin. The actual mileage stated on the odometer reads 09292 miles, so it is to be assumed that it has rolled over once. There is no way to verify the mileage as original, although nowadays the mileage comes up exempt on a new change of ownership title when a car is more than 10 years old in most states. Included in the glove box is the original Oldsmobile Cutlass/Cutlass Supreme/442 owner's manual that came with the car back in 1970. These older classics that have survived for nearly half a century are becoming harder and harder to find. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has a genuine 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 Convertible listed at $368,880 in high condition, which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. Nada has the average condition value at $249,120 which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer! They have the lowest condition valued at $178,080 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration. Sure the prices are substantially less on the Cutlass Supreme model, but whatever this Classic Convertible sells for in this quick "No Reserve" 3-day auction is a win/win investment. This is not a Barrett-Jackson museum quality show piece by any stretch of thee imagination, but I did show what ran over the block at the Mecum/Las Vegas auction a several weeks ago. That was a real 442 W-30 post coupe hardtop that went up to 95K, but the seller would not part with his Olds. The bid went on! That was the only 442 that I saw cross the blocks in Las Vegas on Star Car Saturday and it happened to be a Burgundy 1970 with white stripes. That's why I thought I would include a picture of what these cars are capable of bringing in a hardtop model. This 1970 Cutlass Supreme/442 W-30 convertible look-a-like is being sold as a nice daily driver type of Classic Muscle Car.
