Vehicle Detail

Update Note - since I listed this with a buy it now price of 17,500 I have had emails with offers less than that. Please do not waste your time & mine with offers as it takes 17,500 to buy it. It's a great car & that price is over 5,000 less than I have in it. As a teenager growing up in the mid 60's the cool kids had 49 to 51 two door Mercs - before the 56 & 57 Chev where popular. I was poorer than dirt & could only dream of having one. I looked for over 7 years to buy a good all original Merc that had not been all Hot Rodded up or junk. This is by far the best car I found as most where no where close to being original or where so rough it would take over 30,000 to restore & still would not be original & everyone wanted 12,000 to 15,000 for rough 2 door Mercs of the time period I wanted. I want the car to have a good home but it will require 17,500 to buy it. Anyone who buys it, that comes to pay for & pick it up are more than welcome to take it for a drive & fully inspect before they pay for it. Drives great & needs nothing mechanically. Great 1950 Mercury true surviver 2 Door Merc w/ V-8 Flahead engine - manual transmission - 3 speed on the colum. Has Fender Skirts & Dual spotlights & Sun Visor. Runs great, Car is pretty much all original other than older repaint & inteior redone. Inside even has the original paint on dash which was dark maroon color. If you are looking for a really straight original Merc this is it. Provenance - This car was formally in the Collection of well know Iowa car collector Ed Norland who past away & his car collection was sold back in 2015. Anyone can go online & find this car & when it sold by simply typing in 1950 Mercury & or Ed Norland car collection. We are only selling the car because my wife can not drive a standard shift & I do not have the time to drive it much. Following is the discription posted in the sale listing & can again be found online. Automobile, 1950 Mercury 2-Dr Sedan. Dramatic deep burgundy with new deep red pleated cloth interior. Flathead V-8 (255 cu in). Twin tear-drop spotlights, visor, fender skirts and wide white walls. Beautiful & ready for both road and show. Quality example of true 1950 Merc classic cruiser. 26,538 miles. VIN 50DA61487M As you can see it had 26,538 when I bought it & now has only 26,920 miles which means in over 3 years of owning it I have only drove it less than 400 miles. When I first bought it I had the hoses & Belts replaced & both water pumps send off & rebuilt & tuned up. And I just this week bought a new battery for it.Following is any noted issues that I am aware of.Has some scratches to paint ( see photos )Very small minor dings in chrome on thin side strip ( see photo )Passenger side window will need replace ( has cracks )Radio & clock does not work.Interior overhead light is missing lense cover.Paint has a few areas of minor paint lifting ( see photo ) I crawled under the car ( the best I could ) body looks good. This car appears to have been well taken care of over the years & interior of trunk looks great. I even pulled back the side panels on interior of trunk & can see nothing but original steel. Still 6V, Floor on driver side has one small spot that pops when you put you weight on it, which could be a worn thru spot ( not sure as it's covered over. I did have an electric fuel pump intstalled on the underside of car ( to make it easier to start ) under the driver side floor board, the mechanic never said anything about any issues. The Rest of floors appear to be perfect. I am too Old & too heavy to get under this car but did get under the back end of car & everything looks solid & frame looks very good. I can see no body filler used anywhere on the car, I'm not saying for sure 100 % that there is none but all I can see is factory steel body.Ed Norland was one of the founding members of the Iowa Hot Rod Club & the Club helped Ed's family get all the cars ready for the auction as some had not been driven for a while. I had called over before the auction & talked to one of the members helping & he said it was a good solid car & one of his favorites in the whole auction.I do not believe Ed would have had any cars that where not good solid cars. I believe the car has been well cared for it's whole live & you can tell it's not a junk yard salvaged car.Note - this car is not a show car in it's present state - it's a driver. The worst thing is it may need a new paint job as I don't know if the scratches can be covered up with out repainting it. The few minor issues it has are all cosmetic. - The waterpumps I had send out to a company out east that rebuilds vintage automobile water pumps and I forgot to mention that while I had the waterpumps out to be rebuilt, I had the radiator taken out & took to radator shop and cleaned & repainted. I have taken more photos of underneath for those that I serious. see note below.I just drove the car outside & took several photos, I also layed out a blanket & looked at car on the underside all the way around. Frame looks very good. The only rust I seen was surface rust on the approx 4 to 5 in flange on steel body, none rusted thru ( no holes) I am sending pic's of it. The car has never had a off body restoration., the bottom flage under body has what looks like the original maroon paint, I had also mentioned in my ad that the dash has what looks like the original maroon paint & also noticed today that the inside doorjams have the same original paint. Looks like who ever did the paint job only painted what you could see the deep burgundy. The fact that it does have the original maroon paint that by the way is very good condition tells me that it was a good original car that had been taken care of. I could not see any new major issues anywhere. As stated before anything I see that is an issue is simply cosmetic. I did also go out & buy a new battery for it today. No matter what it is very good solid 1950 merc in pretty much as close to original as you will find. BUYER CAN PAY FOR IT WHEN THEY PICK IT UP AFTER THEY DO THEIR OWN INSPECTION.
