Vehicle Detail

2006 Honda Insight Hybrid Chances are if you are reading this listing, you know what a unique and exceptional vehicle this is. In the event you do not, it can easily achieve 65 mpg on the highway upwards of 75+mpg with some minor hypermiling techniques. The entire Chassis of the vehicle is made from super strong and light Forged Aluminum with the body panels made from plastic - you will never have to worry about this car rusting away. This insight has the coveted manual transmission enabling the driver to engage Lean Burn capabilities of the engine. Up until the 2016 Prius Prime, this car had the best MPG of any car....that is correct, no production car could beat the MPG of this vehicle for 16 years (this car first came out in 2000). 2006 was the last year for this generation of Insight (1st Generation) - the subsequent generations were made from steel and had much lower mpg. If this car is new to you, I strongly recommend you read up on this vehicle and peruse the very strong owner's site: https://www.insightcentral.net/forums/44-honda-insight-forum-1st-gen-discussion/ With this car I was able to regularly do 600-700 miles on a single tank driving 90% highway. This was an absolute cash saver for me when I had 120 mile round trip daily commutes. It was nice not having the Costco Gas attendant remember my name anymore! I am the second owner, Purchasing it in November 2013 with 31K miles. I am selling only because I have two kids that need to be picked up and dropped off to daycare, and haven't had to do long round trip commutes for a while. Right now its just my grocery getter car...it misses the highway... This 2006 Insight MT comes equipped with: - Grid Charger (used once a month to ensure IMA battery is balanced and kept healthy) - IMA Hybrid Battery was replaced by Honda in November 2013 and is still running good with no IMA lights ever popping up. - Upgraded Large Touchscreen Head unit with GPS Navigation and Bluetooth handsfree, Reverse Camera ready - Disclaimer, I have noticed during summer when parked outside on very hot days (94 F+)the head unit may stall/reboot until it cools down. - Original Head Unit included - Upgraded Kosei k1 TS wheels with Brand New RE92 Tires - have driven 120 miles since having the tires put on last month - The nice thing about these Kosei wheels (besides being lighter than the stock aluminum wheels and looking waay cooler) is that they have two valve stems, so no need to remove the rear wheel covers to check or fill the tires. - Upgraded stiffer rear springs - original springs included - S2000 Leather Steering Wheel - not installed, never got around to it - Both the (Hard to Find) Green Manuals - the 2" thick 2000-2006 Insight Service Manual + 2000 Insight Model Series Body Repair Manual - Oil + Filter changes were done by me every 5-6K miles to ensure no damage to the magnesium oil pan and aero panels. - All Aero Panels included! - 73.7K miles driven with lifetime average 60.8mpg...see second to last picture - My personal best was 82mpg for 60 miles doing 65mph the entire time. The car is pretty much perfect given its age. It shifts and drives as smooth as the day I got it. With the exception of the occasional issue noted above with the aftermarket radio/head unit, the only other issue is that the roof has some minor oxidation (see last image) Since taking ownership in 2013 with 31K miles, this car has been absolutely problem free, and continues to be. Below are some videos I tried taking with a head mounted GoPro so you can see the car and IMA battery in action. Unfortunately the head mount wasn't a good angle...if you view in full screen, you can kinda make out some of the useful info from the dash.... Video_1 Video_2 Video_3 I am hoping to sell this to someone who will take care and love it as much as I have. It has been a really great car and I'd like to see it go to a caring home. It is a USED car, do not expect showroom perfect! Also, it has no warranty given implied or expressed. Please have your method of transport/delivery sorted out before the end of the auction. In November 2013, I paid $715 to get this car picked up from Denver, CO and delivered to my driveway in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Look up Car Transport agencies online and get a few quotes. If you have any questions about this car, please let me know BEFORE bidding. Lastly, a $500 non-refundable deposit via Paypal will be due within 24 hours of auction close and Full payment will be due within 8 business days otherwise it will be relisted. Payment is preferred to be in cash. Cashiers check will be accepted BUT only after cleared. Title hand over and pickup of the insight will not be permitted until the Cashier check has been cleared. On Dec-01-18 at 12:35:58 PST, seller added the following information: It seems some of the pictures didn't upload correctly to Ebay...I have re-uploaded a few of them (Ebay limits to 24 images), but not able to remove the ones that are having issues (won't load larger images/zoom) - so if it doesn't zoom in, keep scrolling to the right! Also I have received a lot of good questions about this car, below are copy n' pastes from the Q&A so far: 1- I'm curious if the battery Honda put in in 2013 was a remanufactured pack or if it was a newly built pack... -- According to the InsightCentral forums, Honda most likely replaced the original pack with a "Refurbished" or "Remanufactured" pack - meaning they probably left the good cells in the replacement pack and replaced the bad cells with good cells. 2- What grid specific grid charger is included?... -- Grid Charger is by Maxx Volts, it is one of the better ones that is setup to turn the IMA pack fan on while charging. 3- Do you still have the original wheels? .... -- Original wheels are not included 4- Are the springs the popular Daewoo Matiz springs... -- Honestly I am not too sure - the previous owner swapped them out. He stated that when he was driving to the airport one day with another passenger and a load of luggage, the car felt like it was going to bottom out, so he swapped the springs with something stiffer. All I can say, is that I much prefer the ride with the stiffer springs compared to the stock springs (tried a few other insights at various meetups :-)) 5- What size, height and width, are the K1's? It's genius that you can fill them without having to take the wheel well covers off! -- They are the same size as the stock wheels - so the original RE92 tires fit 6- Any issues with the wet seatbelt issue after it rains? -- you are well versed in gen 1 insights! the previous owner put in some RTV or silicon sealant in the areas to prevent this from happening....it hasn't ever leaked on me, but may be time to revisit this seal. 7- For roof you mentioned it is oxidized. .... -- Clear coating doesn't look like its peeling, but area is rougher to the feel and paint is discolored a bit, a good buff may fix it, but didn't want to wear down the remaining clear coat - I was debating wrapping the roof... 8- Finally, what make and model is the touch screen stereo that has been in Farenheit F-721 ---------------------- Does it come with the original wheels? The original wheels are not included. The Kosei wheels are lighter than the stock wheels and from my experience get about the same or slightly better mpg than the stock wheels....Also the Kosei wheels are double stemmed so you don't need to take off the rear skirts to check air pressure on the tires -------------------------- Air conditioning? Oh Heck Yeah! It does indeed have Air Conditioning - I am in South Florida and wouldn't get a car without it....It works great! No leaks, never had to add refrigerant during my ownership. On Dec-02-18 at 08:29:01 PST, seller added the following information: Sunday Funday Q&A! --------------------- 1-Whats the little black thing on top of the steering wheel? It looks like a small plastic oval. Good eye! That is the microphone for the handsfree phone system that I installed with the aftermarket head unit - if you noticed in one of the pictures there is also a rounded rectangular shape at the very base of the interior of the windshield - this is the GPS receiver that is also connected to the headunit. Both are attached with doubleside tape, so if you decide to change the head unit, they should come off easily with some dental floss and goof off. 2- Any signs of aluminum corrosion or rust? None that I can tell - beyond the rust spec on some of the bolt heads in the engine bay, which is normal for these cars - Honda has a really interesting procedure to make sure there was not galvanic corrosion between the steel & stainless steel bolts and forged aluminum frame - it was mentioned in detail on the insight central forum 3- Any history of body work or signs of it any where? The previous owner stated no body work was done when I purchased it, and there has been none during my ownership. The Hard to find Green Shop & Body Manuals that will be included with the winning bid came from the original owner of this insight - It would seem he was one of those guys that gets totally infatuated with a new car and gets all the accessories and shop manuals for it. I flipped through a few pages when I first got them, I have to say they are actually quite fascinating. Lots of firsts for Honda and the car industry wrapped up into this particular generation of insight. Good Luck on your bid! Bob p.s. If your strategy is to wait for the last minutes/seconds to bid, be sure to set 2 alarms on two different devices...I can't tell you the number of times I've kicked myself for missing out on auction I planned to do last second bidding on.... --------------------- Has this car ever been smoked in? -- Never! Also it never transported pets - I wouldn't trust them in the front seat, and the rear cargo area doesn't look too comfy for larger dogs....that is what the Jeep is for ;-) ------------------------- With the swapped Kosei Wheels - does this change the tire size? -- Nope! The Kosei k1 ts rims are the same size as the original wheels. The most important thing to me about these wheels, beyond they are lighter and are double valve stemmed is that they would take the same exact Low Rolling Resistance Bridgestone Potenza RE92 tires (P165/65R14)-- this is critical to keep the high MPG capabilities of this vehicle. The Bridgestone Potenza RE92 tires (complete set of 4) on this insight are practically brand new with less than 150 miles on them... -------------------------- Keep those questions rolling in! I love talking about this car! I'm going to really miss it, it is one of my all time favorites. Also, if you are bidding or planning on bidding for this auction, I strongly recommend that you set a few reminders to closely monitor the last 5-10 minutes of the auction, and be prepared to counter bid the last second Auction Sniping folks... Good Luck Everyone!
