Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my hybrid 1974 Datsun 260z with a built LS3 (for those that are unfamiliar, the LS3 is a 6.2L V8 which is found in late model Corvettes and Camaros) hence its project name of 620z. I have been building it to keep, but unfortunately after moving to downtown Chicago a couple of years ago, I have found that I don’t have enough extra time or space to work on it anymore. As you can tell from the pictures, most of the effort thus far into the project has been in building the powertrain to be rock solid and reliable. The engine makes over 500 hp and has the components to back that up all day. The good (beyond the build sheet listed below):-Custom built engine mounts use the superior late model GM LS engine isolators and places the engine much lower and farther back in the bay than the conversion kits that you can buy. This position created under 52% front weight bias. (Total vehicle weight 2538 lbs.)-Very low mileage since build (estimated 1500 miles).-Originally a southern car (bought in Arkansas, built in Tennessee, garage stored since trailering to Chicago and driving less than 50 miles in IL and only during the summer.)- Built without shortcuts and with the intention of keeping it forever, but unfortunately, life gets in the way of good plans.-Title in hand. The bad:-The floor pans were rusted out so I custom fabricated replacements. Concerned about structural integrity, I built a subframe in this area which also serves as better structural mounts for the seats and carries the additional weight of the transmission.-The custom exhaust system was made in a rush at a local exhaust shop. It currently rides low enough that it will scrape the pavement if driven over a sizeable bump. I planned to reroute.- The outside door handles are currently not installed (I think I have one of them), so I use the inside door handles to enter.-See pictures of all vehicle rust. I have not left any out. A few areas have rusted through, but most of the rust on the bodywork seems pretty much cosmetic. These panels still feel solid.-Headlights did work but are not working currently (I think it is the switch on the column). When they did work they were pretty dim and could stand to be rewired. Brake lights work but turn signals do not.-Gets worse fuel mileage than I would expect. May need to adjust some settings in the self-tuning ECU.-Gauges aren’t currently connected but the ECU and TCU diplays give all vital info (oil pressure, engine temp, voltage, RPM, speed, and lots more). I also wired an alternator fault and high engine temperature warning light in the custom fabricated center panel. More Pictures available.
