Vehicle Detail

1969 Pontiac Matador Red Firebird Convertible with a 400 cubic inch engine is selling at "No Reserve" on a quick 5-day auction They simply don't make cars as extraordinary looking body styles like these anymore. The front end or the side view of a muscle car doesn't come more sexy then this classic. Especially in Red! Why not instantly become the pride of your neighborhood? I picked up this sweet 1969 Pontiac Firebird Convertible from a buddy in a package deal with a 442 Convertible. I'm a Cutlass/442 guy, so that's the car I'm restoring. This fine example will be left up to the winning bidder to finish off the restoration. My buddy had already had it painted or else I may have been tempted to do a 1969 Pontiac TransAm Convertible recreation. I'm selling this Rare Red Firebird droptop with an open, clean, and clear title issued from the State of Indiana. This Firebird convertible was previously owned by an elderly couple that had owned the car since 1997 before my buddy made the purchase. If you simply double click on the main picture of the auction page then all 24 pictures will be able to be viewed in the larger size by clicking the arrows on each side of the larger pictures. I will explain everything I found out from my buddy at the point of purchase. This Firebird was in good condition, but appeared to have its original convertible top, so my buddy removed the old top prior to the fresh paint work that he had done. The top frame and all the mechanicals still seem to be in place. The White California Convertible top boot comes with the car, but does not seem to fit properly. I just put it on the car because it looked good in the pictures. I'm sure the new owner would want to go with a new black top, so they will most likely want to buy a new black California boot cover. Installing a new power convertible top will be left up to the new owner. The paint was faded so he had a fresh Matador Red paint job done last year. He told me the body was prepped and primed and then primer sealed before a full gallon of Matador Red paint was applied followed by 3 coats of clear coat. Once this Firebird Convertible is finished off there will be endless compliments coming to whoever is the lucky winner of this rare classic Firebird droptop. I would rate the paintwork as drivers quality. The prior owner told my buddy that this car had never been involved in any accidents and from everywhere I scrutinized the car I saw no signs of it ever being hit. I believe all of the body panels to be original to this car. I looked the frame over and from everywhere I looked it appears in very good condition. There may have been some body work done, but hey, the car is a half a century old. My buddy said when he got the car the body was clean, but the paint was faded. The Pontiac 400 engine was just treated to a new set of AC Delco spark plugs and a new set of spark plug wires in preparation for this sale. This Bird runs strong with a new battery from June of 2018. I haven't driven the car except around the neighborhood and the transmission shifts properly. My buddy did new brake lines, so the brakes stop well! This 400 has a quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust. I was given the cool dual snorkel air cleaner with the sale, but never had a chance to get the foam seals. There is a brand new air cleaner inside the base. The hood scoop inserts would need to be opened up to make the air cleaner functional, so the air cleaner is just for looks at this point. There was also a new alternator installed just before I made the purchase, and I believe the water pump was also replaced. Somewhere along the line someone put on cherry bombs for the exhaust, so there is quite a rumble when this bird is fired up. The pipe was missing on the passenger side between the cherry bomb and the tail pipe, so that was replaced. I was told that the mileage is correct at just over 94,000 original miles on the body. I don't know all that much about Pontiacs, so I can't say if this is the original engine. This 400 engine was nicely detailed with Pontiac blue. Since I don't know all that much about Pontiacs I have a buddy who is a Pontiac guru, and he looked up the XX letters on the block and he believes they decode as coming out of a 1967 GTO which is a high horse 400/325 horsepower 10.5/1 compression engine. Therefore I'm not going to claim the engine to be original to the body. The suspension seems to be in good shape as this Firebird sits up just right. The dash pad is in good condition, and the speedometer does go up to 160mph. There is a near pristine 1969 Pontiac Owner's manual that will be included in the glove box. The entire interior appears in relatively nice condition as apparent from the pictures. There was some floor replacement work done followed by brand new black carpet that sports a new set of four black carpeted floor mats. This is an original bucket seat and console car. The aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM Cassette Player Super Tuner stereo is not hooked up, so getting the music system set-up will be left up to the new owner. This Firebird has all the cool stuff most bird guys want on their convertible that include the front and rear spoilers and a brand new aftermarket hood tachometer. The tach is mounted, but will need to be hooked up and the front turn signals are missing. They were misplaced by my buddy when they were taken off prior to paint. Those can be found at a wide variety of classic car parts suppliers for around $50 dollars. The hood latch was never installed by the body shop that did the paint work, so the hood is currently strapped down tight. I do have the hood latch with the pull cable that will be included in the trunk. The rear bird quarter emblems are brand new, the fender vent inserts are brand new as well as the trunk lock bird emblem. The scoop inserts and 400 hood emblems are also brand new. The original factory type decals were applied in the areas around the car that would normally have been on these Birds when they came from the factory when they were ordered new. This Firebird rides on a set of four Goodyear Eagle ST raised white lettered steel belted radial tires with good tread mounted on a set of four Pontiac Rally wheels with a set of four black PMD center caps, four beauty trim rings, and chrome lug nuts. The trunk floor has been patched, but is very sturdy and was coated with AC Delco black and aqua spatter spray to make it appear factory correct. An original jack, jack stand and crow bar were nicely detailed and sit on a new trunk mat. The trunk also carries a full size Eagle ST spare tire. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide that anyone can look up on-line has the 1969 Pontiac Firebird Convertible with a 400/330 horsepower engine and rally wheels valued at $76,000 in high condition, which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. They have the average condition valued at $40,500 which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer! They have the lowest condition valued at $21,125 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration. The numbers don't lie! These Firebird Droptops are very valuable classic muscle cars. Why pay the crazy prices that these cars are bringing nowadays when you can find your dream car right here selling at "No Reserve" on a quick 5-day auction? Don't you deserve to treat yourself to the piece of artwork that these cars have become? Like the old saying goes when the top goes down the price goes up! These 1967-1969 first generation Pontiac Firebird Convertible's have consistently shown to escalate in value with each quarter. This is a great investment to make your money work for you while you enjoy yourself. I'm selling this car as a drivers quality type car that will need several items to tinker around with, since I need the funds for some of my other 442 projects. What you see is exactly what you get! I tried to describe all of the pertinent information, so any potential bidder can make the most informed decision possible before placing their bid. If there is anything else you feel that may have been missed, please ask any questions you like. All questions will be answered in a timely fashion with the utmost honesty in explicit detail. This Cool Classic Pontiac Convertible is being offered at "No Reserve" on a quick 5-day auction ending Sunday evening at 8:00pm Eastern time, 7:00pm Central time, and 5:00pm Pacific time. The PayPal deposit is required to be paid within 24 hours, but appreciated if it were paid right away. The balance is to be wire transferred within 72 hours. As soon as the funds are clear the title will be sent out by U.S. Priority mail the same day or kept with the car for transport whichever the winning bidder prefers. This is a prime opportunity to own your dream car at a nominal price. Please have your bids approved by your spouse if need be. This was the last year of the Firebird convertible, and they are becoming harder and harder to find with each passing year. Thank You for taking the time to read and view my auction! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!
