Vehicle Detail
To say this is a rare motorcycle would be an understatement. It is more unique and rarer than a sandcast Cb750 and very few people have ever seen one in real life. If you like rare Cb750's you need this motorcycle in your collection. Domestic model 1971 Cb750 originally delivered brand new in the country of Japan home market. These are some of the differences between the domestic market Cb750 and the US market Cb750: Red 'speed warning light' between the gauges. Kilometers per hour speedometer. Straight foot pegs that are not folding. Chrome fork cover/headlight ears (with correct K1 small reflectors). Grey color dual push/pull throttle cables. Different side kick stand. Amber (not red) reflectors built into the taillight. Japanese license plate frame to mount the larger Japanese license plates. Headlight is not marked DOT or "Sealed Beam". Unique serial number sticker on the gooseneck with no DOT or EPA references. Japanese language decals Japanese aftermarket engine guard (removed but included). The red light between the gauges is a Japan home market speed warning light that illuminates at 80 KPH which was their national speed limit at the time this motorcycle was produced. It's one of the hallmark features of a Japan market bike along with the straight, nonfolding footpegs and a few other unique items that get Cb750 collectors in the USA scratching their heads. The original motor spins with compression when you kick the kick starter. Serial numbers are Cb750-1120519 and Cb750e-1120197 and this motorcycle comes with a clear and clean title. This motorcycle was purchased after the previous owner had lost interest in "restoring" it. Luckily it looks like he had only removed some parts so I reinstalled those parts but unfortunately the gas tank was already stripped and in primer so I had a friend paint the gas tank to as close of a match as he could but it did not turn out very well so the gas tank will definitely need to be professionally repainted before it goes in your collection. Everything else on the motorcycle looks good and the mufflers are stamped hm341 but they are in rough condition. The mufflers were stored in a damp area of a separate outbuilding so they are rusty but fortunately the whole bike itself was garaged indoors in a climate controlled building and it cleaned up very nicely after I knocked the dust and grime off it. The motorcycle is rust free overall, just the mufflers are rusty because of where the mufflers were stored at for the last 20 plus years. The seat is original upholstery and the seat pan is solid too. The speedometer is in Kilometers Per Hour (not MPH) and it says 35,079 kilometers so that translates into 21,797 miles. One of the uninstalled parts I found was an oil tank line with a broken fitting so that needs to be repaired/replaced before you plan on starting this bike. The chrome needs to be professionally polished with a wheel and rouge but it presents well as is. A professional level detail and paint touch up here and there will do wonders for this bike and make it really shine. There is a small seam split about 2" long by the seat strap on the right side (invisible in the pics) so that could be repaired easily during the detail because it's located on a seam. The matching Dunlop Roadmaster tires have great tread but I haven't tried any of the electrical system because I did not hook up any wires in the headlight bucket when I reinstalled the headlight and turn signals. It has a few dings but overall a nice looking bike for your collection, paint the tank and install a set of good used mufflers and you'll have a rare bike for your collection or a nice rider or display bike if you really want to stir things up at the next motorcycle show... There are pages and pages of Cb750 sandcast information on Google but very little on Japan home market Cb750 motorcycles. Every serious Cb750 collector has a sandcast but I guarantee you'll be the only one in your group of friends with a Japanese domestic model Cb750. If you like rare Cb750's you need this motorcycle in your collection.
